Forums - Gaming - Anyone Else Wondering How Naughty Dog Got Studio of The Year?

If The Last Of Us is a multi-platform game i bet it will earn a ton of goty award. VGX is a trash show, they only give goty to those game that have huge fanbase & popularity

I don't really understand this, I mean if GTA5 got GOTY that means Rockstar made the best game so therefore shouldn't they get studio of the year too?  What other criteria is there for studio of the year besides who makes the best game...I think they just gave it to them for the Joel Banderas moment, the only memorable moment of the whole show.

Well, except for making the GOTY a studio receiving the "Studio of the Year" should also have made OTHER high profile games that was critically acclaimed and sold well, that's why Naughty Dogs got.... Ooooooh, wait...

I'm on Twitter @DanneSandin!

Furthermore, I think VGChartz should add a "Like"-button.

Not really. Rockstar's studio has like 500 people. Of course they made the best and biggest game, they have the most man power.

Naughty Dog is less than 100 people. Therefore, they are an arguably more talented studio. They did as good work with less people.

Currently own:

  • Ps4

Currently playing: Witcher 3, Walking Dead S1/2, GTA5, Dying Light, Tomb Raider Remaster, MGS Ground Zeros

I like to think that it's because they developed a totally new IP and made it one of the best games of the year, if not the entire generation. That's remarkable, in my opinion, especially against so many established IP. The voters aren't just voting for the game, they're voting for the studio that brought something new and different to market and made it into a complete success.

With GTA 5, while I have no problem with it being GOTY, I do think it's the game that the media wants to be GOTY. It's the blockbuster hit and the story that will transcend the gaming world. Naughty Dog getting Studio of the Year is like saying, "uh, yeah, sorry, but we need GTA 5 to win GOTY, so take this instead."

It's kind of like how sometimes in the NFL the player who had the most dominant season will be given the Offensive Player of the Year award because the MVP award is reserved for the more marketable Quarterback position.

The real question is how did The Last of Us lose.

There are around 300 people working on Naughty Dog xD How do you think they keep up the pace of switching from Uncharted to The Last of Us, and go back to Uncharted now for the Ps3?

EDIT: But in any case, they're less than Rockstar's manpower, that you are right.

300 people you have a source on that?  I recall a video where Evan Wells(President of ND) specifically stated he would never consider making his studio that massive. They switch from Uncharted to TLoU by designating a small portion of the team to work on the later project, they don't cut the studio in half like some think.

Rockstar had 5 years and over a 100 million dollar budget to which Naughty Dog probably had half of that budget with 1/4 the size of workers.

GTA5, TLoU, Mario3D, and Bioshock Infinite were all deserving of the award.

Uhhh...I recall wikipedia saying it had 300 people...I could be wrong, though.
