With GTA 5, while I have no problem with it being GOTY, I do think it's the game that the media wants to be GOTY. It's the blockbuster hit and the story that will transcend the gaming world. Naughty Dog getting Studio of the Year is like saying, "uh, yeah, sorry, but we need GTA 5 to win GOTY, so take this instead." It's kind of like how sometimes in the NFL the player who had the most dominant season will be given the Offensive Player of the Year award because the MVP award is reserved for the more marketable Quarterback position. |
