To be honest so much fuss was made over that comment and seen in context, he's actually quite gracious and complimentary to Nintendo, while simply stating they are in tough with their home console division, which is true.
Nintendo needs to hire people like him -- people who understand the Western game market, but also understand game design, and he's designed a lot of games with the Crash/Jak series. So he knows his stuff. He didn't succeed in rescuing THQ but really that situation was so far gone by the time he got there that's there's not a lot he could do. But even there he brings experience of emphasizing efficiency and not letting teams/production costs get out of control.
I think he'd be a good fit at Nintendo. I don't think Iwata needs to be fired, but he needs to start to delegate to voices outside of his narrow board of Japanese directors. Rubin could be one such voice that could help Nintendo. Arakawa and Lincoln did so much for Nintendo particularily in the 1990s, they need to get better execs that can do the same today and who know the Western game market and game business.
