Forums - Microsoft - Fixed -My 10 days with the Xbox One

I have watched the Tutor, but did not "calibrate" it.  I will look into that again tonight, as I have now bypassed it for my wife.  I told her about the tutorial and calibration and she wants to get it to work too(luckily).

As far  as the Xbox On, it all works fine if I power the controller on.  It's only the voice at this point.

There is a fix for that, however it may take me a while to find on Reddit.

Do you have the Xbox One configured to turn on both your Xbox One and your TV by voice?  I'm going off memory, but there was something about that.

Good honest review. I'm personally waiting until the price comes down or they offer a SKU without a disc drive that makes for a cheaper console.

All digital baby!

I personally think that they would offer a Kinectless SKU before they offer a SKU without a disc drive....I can't personally see them offering and XB1 without a disc drive period to be honest.

Have you watched the free Xbox Speech tutor? I strongly recommend it. I'm still learning. I still have some learning to do. I'm really good with the old 360 system, and it's a little different on the Xbox One.

Also, as people said, make sure you calibrate it. It's really important. The 360 version I did a few times under different situations (large windows open/closed, etc.)

You have to say things as it expects them: "Xbox got Forza 5" If you say, 'Xbox, um what did I want to play, um, yea Forza 5" it's going to ignore you. It's "Xbox Goto (full name of app)."

If other people are talking, yes the speech can be effected. Surprise you are having issues with 'Xbox On.' It's works for me, and even turns on my TV and A/V Receiver. Try a little pause between the two words.

I can even say during a movie or game - "Xbox, volume down." and it adjust my receiver. It's great, as my old trusty Harmony Remote is starting to wear out. Plus I have fussy, fussy neighbors that freak out if they hear anything.

Good luck.

PS Just order a cable box (for free) so I can use some of the TV features.

Hmmm. With Voice on, it only works if you have your console set to sleep mode.

I will say this, Kinect will have issues IF you have people around TV on and everyone talking with each other. But thats kind of expected. I tend not to use voice if we have alot of people round, because some are laughing and joking, some are chatting etc etc. I use voice when its just me the wife and my kids. Turn the volume up really loud during Kinect voice calibration. Like over the top loud. This will help it negate the TV all the time no matter your volume.

My faveourite thing is actually combining control methods. I can surf the internet extremely fast. Part voice and part controller. Its really cohesive together.

Thats actually what impresses me the most.

I disagree. Kinect will never be an option.

However every film release releases on Live the same time as in shops. Also so do the games. All films are 1080p and contain special features. There is absolutely a market for Digital only owners in the near future. And Live is already content filled for this.

It is good to see that it will work.  I am guessing that I haven't spent enough time focusing on this aspect.  I also have 4 kids, so the "quiet" room is when they are sleeping.  That tends to be a time that I need to be quiet myself, and the headphones and remote are the way to go!

It is near the end of the end....

Oh no I am not saying there is not a market for digital only owners, I am just saying that a SKU without a disc drive will not happen and definitely not anytime soon. If DISC based games have like a 30-45 gig install then a 500gig hard drive for ALL digital is WAY to small. 2TB would feel small so they would require HUGE hard drives on the systems just to be relevant. It could happen but in the near future...I just can't see it happening in my opinion.

But I do have a question about the movies, I know you said all the extra features are there but what about the picture and sound quality? Are they still the same as well if you get a movie digitally? I have never downloaded a movie digital only so I am not sure about that part.

Hey, they just released a 'Zoo Tychoon' Demo.  Load that up for the kids and see if they like it.  Plus, it will solve that long standing problem with the "Want a Hippopotamus for Christmas."

Also calibrate!  Think of it like this -  you know the way to work, but you keep your eyes open because other things happen. Like people stop in front of you and you make adjustments.

Really not sure I see any point of Consol over PC's since Kinect, Wii and other alternative ways to play have been abandoned.
