Since it's Sony, the PSN has been broken for some days and there is no supply left they will only come out with it when they are able to give some good news along the side. Like new shipments arriving before X-mas or something.

It's no good to announce a 'sold out' until january right...

Just a guess.

Maybe because it's harder to compile accurate sell through numbers across 30-ish countries than it is for just 2?

We know >185K in UK alone, so that's a pretty good sign that they shipped plenty.
