My enthusiasm dropped to an all-time low when I discovered that I have to finish every single level with every character to get all stamps. This makes the unlockable Rosalina a really bad thing, because she's a fifth character! The game counts a level as completed as long as a character has grabbed on to the flagpole, so dragging a bubble along shortens the process (damn time limit to grab the flagpole after the first character has touched it), but there's the occasional annoying situation that the dragged character gets out of their bubble and dies, thus increasing the death count on my file. Multiplayer would of course be a better option, but finding people who have enough dedication and the skill to go through the later levels isn't easy. I would have to clear those levels mostly or all by myself in any case.

Yes, all characters play differently, but it's not that much of a difference. Attaining a complete file is more a grind, rather than fun.

Hum... Not sure you heard right about that. Could you please explain why you think you have to do this?

I'm in the "not as good as Galaxy 2" zone but I'm just half way through world 3

exactly where I was when I thought that lol enjoy the game!

Am I the only one who prefered Galaxy 1 to Galaxy 2? O_o

Galaxy 2 was awesome, don't get me wrong, but it didn't have the novelty effect that the first title had. So it was a bit more of the same to me. Even though that "same" was from a game and concept that HAD to be revisited. =)

But the essence of your reply to Roma is still the same in my case. I could say the same thing. When they announced SM3DW and showed that gameplay footage, me being underwhelmed would be a huge understatement. But the more I saw of that game, over the months leading to its release, I got more and more hyped. Before Super Mario 3D World, Galaxy was my favourite game in the franchise, no contest there.  SM3DW managed to make me rethink that. Now, I'm not sure of anything. Maybe it's just the fact that 3D World is fresh right now. I'll be able to be impartial about this once I'm done with the game and return to Galaxy for a bit. Only then will I be able to pass a definite judgment.

But the fact that it's making me wonder about that is a testament to the incredibly high quality of the game.

Well, Galaxy 1 had the "magic" and it really was magical which 2 didn't have due to it being a refined remake, Galaxy 2 had the improvements on the gameplay front for me so I felt it's the better game. Galaxy 2 didn't baby you so much which I like a lot whereas Galaxy 1 wasn't harder until the bonus levels.

I completed the game (credits roll) this weekend playing 4-player co-op with wife/kids from start to finish. Were only two levels where I gave up on co-op and just did em solo but rest we all managed to make it through.

I looked at lives lost on the save-file after the credits rolled and it said 817 lives lost. I had no idea we had died that many times... wow

So the good thing about Super Mario 3D World is that even though you fail a lot, it never makes you feel bad and it doesn't try to block your forward momentum/progress. There are much harder levels and challenges after the credits roll but at least it allows majority of players to make it to the credits if they are just playing/having fun.

Is it better than Mario Galaxy? For me and my family... easily. I mean 4-players AAA game is worth lot more to us than a 1-player game.

He wants all the stamps so he has to complete all levels with all character(basically touching the pole, doesn't need gold or anything.) It's not the same as unlocking worlds.

I wonder if this can save the U...

I don't give a shit if they discontinued Wii U tomorrow, this game is worth it.

So there's something I don't get then... There's only one stamp per level and only a handful of them are unlocked my pressing a "character switch" for which you have to play as the correct character. You don't need to finish every single level with all the characters to find them...  What am I missing? You can spoil it, if I'm missing something. I don't mind.

Basically even after you complete the game, get all the stars and stamps, you will still have a few empty stamp slots, and you can only get them from character level completion, like, am extra box will show up after you unlock the last world, telling you which characters have completed each level when you walk over them, I'm slowly working on that one as well, not much a priority unless you are nuts like Rol.

O...K.... This kinda sucks. Kind of Nintendo artificially increasing the length of the game... and for what kind of reward in the end? Nintendo has never been good with rewarding those kind of "completionist" challenges. Basically, they give... Nothing. No new ending, no new uber cool special level, no new power... nothing. =(

So it's gonna take me a while then. =(

It isn't before completion of the final level that the game adds visible information for who has finished which level. At that point it's also easy to recognize that five stamps are missing, but there are none left in the levels. So filling out all those little squares is the obvious thing to do, and finishing all levels with one and the same character triggers a message and gives you a stamp.

In a sense, it's a good thing that the levels in this games aren't very long. Do you have to just finish the level, or do you also have to get a golden pole with every characters?

I got it at the weekend and I haven't started it yet maybe later today, but I am really looking forward to playing it
