Forums - Gaming - Yu Suzuki to Hold Shenmue Post-Mortem at GDC 2014; Cerny to Translate

Found in GAF and seems interesting.

For March's Game Developers Conference 2014, we're announcing one of the most exciting game postmortems yet.

Yu Suzuki, the influential Japanese game designer famously known for his work at Sega, will be delivering a Classic Game Postmortem on the iconic Dreamcast game Shenmue. Mark Cerny, game designer and lead system architect for PlayStation 4 will be on-hand to translate Suzuki's presentation into English for the audience.

Suzuki, currently president of his own studio YsNet, will talk for the very first time about the creation of the console classic Shenmue. Beginning with the origin of the title as a Virtua Fighter-based RPG on the Sega Saturn, he will take the audience through the long journey of the game that led to its ultimate release in 1999 on the Sega Dreamcast.

This is an hour-long session - we'll have more scheduling details about the talk as GDC gets closer, but we figure a lot of you would like to get this on your radar! If you can't make it to GDC, be sure to watch the session livestreamed on GameSpot.

If Sony and Yu Suzuki revives Shenmue I will die and live again just to play this game.

I don't understand the text. What is this supposed to mean? Yu is going to conmemmorate Shenmue in front of an audience?

He will do a pesentation of one hour talking about the first Shenmue game... about how they developed it (techs, issues, challenges, etc)... and Cerny will translate from Japanese to English.

I'm dreaming with a reboot for PS4 or Shenmue 3.

An HD collection would be nice, since that's how Sega works these days xD

i hope there will be more than just blabla.

If there is no HD or third part than he shall use the time to tell the whole shenmue story.

Did you originally play it on the dreamcast?

The first two.... yes and I loved.

Hope for Shenmue 3 aside, this ought to be interesting. Always been curious about what Suzuki had in mind back when the series was planned for the Saturn, cause honestly, it probably would've been a much bigger game-changer for the Saturn than it was for the Dreamcast.

:) Nice! The games had a decent following, I wasn't able to enjoy them back in the day but I heard so many great things about them.

Pffff. Two of the best games ever made.

Hehe, I hope Cerny is translating in more detail than when he translated the japanese producer of Knack in one of the interviews. As far as I remember that guy talked for several minutes and Cerny just summarized it in one very short sentence.

I think Cerny is becoming his friend (because he doesnt seem to have many friends) to convince him to make a next shenmue only on PS4

Predictions for end of 2014 HW sales:

 PS4: 17m   XB1: 10m    WiiU: 10m   Vita: 10m
