Forums - Gaming - Is Vgchartz sales numbers reliable ?

The simple question is in the title.

Those numbers came from what source ?

Are they pretty much reliable ? Why ?

I'm intersted in it.

Thanks in advance.

The numbers are reliable, though they get less reliable the more recent they get. Of course they also get less reliable if you're looking at very old numbers!

I'd say they're very reliable after some time has past. They might not be very accurate when the first sales numbers goes up (although, they're probably good enough), but after some adjustments I'd say they're pretty good.

I'm on Twitter @DanneSandin!

Furthermore, I think VGChartz should add a "Like"-button.

Nope.

Sorry

Physical retail? Somewhat.

Hardware? Adjustments everywhere

Preorders? Lolz

Luckily the system in flexible and admits when its wrong and adjusts accordingly.

No digital tracking is gonna be the death of this site as a tracker, I see it just focusing on sales everyone else reports (kinda is like that now anyhow).

VGChartz Methodology

Data-Collection Methodology

All sales estimates on VGChartz are arrived at via a number of proprietrary and ever-developing methods:

  • Passively polling end users to find out what games they are currently purchasing and playing
  • Polling retail partners to find out what games and hardware they are selling
  • Using statistical trend fitting and historical data for similar games
  • Studying resell prices to determine consumer demand and inventory levels
  • Consulting with publishers and manufacturers to find out how many units they are introducing into the channel

All data is regularly checked against manufacturer shipments and data released publicly from other tracking firms to ensure accuracy. VGChartz holds no responsibility for the use of our data – any business decisions made are made at your own risk.

always there is error.
But i believe that the error are not greater than 10%.
So, I would say it is 90% reliable.
