Forums - Sony - Corrinne Yu joins Naughty Dog

Of course she did: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Corrinne_Yu#Game_development

And no, she didn't - she was asked about Windows 8 and said PS4 has less overhead and allows coding "to the metal" which is also true for Xbone.

Belive what you want believe but she was comparing Xbone to PS4... Xbone uses a Window 8 based OS.

It's not about believe - read the article on wikipedia. It is you who wants to believe it. The term "Windows 8" means desktop os. The Xbone OS doesn't have that name and a very specialized kernel and driver, like 360, ps3, ps4...

Really, if there would be soooo much overhead, Ryse wouldn't be possible on a system with so low specs.

You are again comparing the heavy desktop os with the xbone-version? really? She is definitely referring to Windows 8 on desktop, not the win8-kernel on xbone.

Tell you that because she never worked in engines for Desktops... only consoles... she is referring to Windows 8 on Xbone.

She directly compared Xbone to PS4.

hmm..  It appears as if she Deleted that tweet.   Maybe said something she wasnt supposed to?   lol

I agree with you about Ryse. This game has amazing graphics. That being said, it's not unreasonable to assume development for XBO games start on a Windows 8 environment. Don't you remember this:

I do remember but this doesn't change anything I said.

Edit: I think that's a Win7 screen

She was working on Xbone games that uses a OS based in Windows 8... you can deny or belive what you want but the Xbone uses a Windows 8 based OS for Apps and Games.

She was bashing this Windows OS compared with the PS4 OS... any Windows OS... not only Windows 8.

MS last released drive was the Mono that seems to make something at close level in Xbone but that it... the OS yet is a Windows OS based.

You could at least admit that you were wrong with the fact that she didn't only work on engines for consoles but that's known from you

It is not "based" on windows 8, it has a similar kernel as I already said and this is especially the one used for apps to make it compatible with future apps to be ported to Xbone.

Whether she was bashing the bone kernel you believe what you want and I do the same, as always.

But what do you mean with Mono?!

Xbone OS is based in Win8... that's what MS did.

What make the difference in performance on Xbone is that the driver is more "close to metal" than the Windows drivers... Mono is like what AMD wants to do with Mantle... yet they are not so lower level like the PS4 low level language.

She was bashing all the abstraction layers in any WinOS... including Xbone where she made a direct comparison with PS4.

How do you measure "low", ethomaz? Please enlighten us. Make a graph, write actual values on the axes and show us how you measure low and how you come to actual values. And now you read even more into her twitter post, this is getting more and more ridiculous.

But again, keep your opinion and I will keep mine.

You have layers of sofware when you use a API to reach the hardware GPU... this is a example (there are mode layers between App and Hardware)

In old windows it was something like: App > Direct3D > Windows Driver > GPU Driver > Hardware
In new windows everything needs to pass by the OS: App > Direct3D > Windows Driver >  GPU Driver > WinOS Control (I'm not sure if this is after or before the GPU driver) > Hardware

So what Mantles try? To remove all the Windows layers.

Mantle: App > Mantle API > Mantle Driver > Hardare

So Mantle have a low access to the driver compared with DirectX or OpenGL. PS4 seems to work directly to the driver level... a level below the Mantle on Windows OS.

PS4, PS3, etc: App > PS4 Driver > Hardware

Yeap... bettween all Driver and Hardware there is another layer with the Hardware firmware/rom but I didn't listed it... Sony changed the AMD driver to have direct access from the Tools... so you can choose to go right close to the metal using the low level API... a step lower than Mantle API.

And she published the bashing to the WinOS in Xbone... not me.
