Forums - Microsoft - Xbox One Cold Boot Takes 1 Minute and 8 Seconds, Runs Hotter, Consumes More Power In Standby Than PS4

Christ when did waiting a minute become such a chore. The world we live in eh.

This is the generation of instant gratitfication. No patience to learn or figure things out when there is an app for that. The smart devices have made many just plain stupid and no patience for even a minute.

1 minute boot?Kinda like a modern PC. My Surface Pro boots in 8 secons with its SSD drive and my old ass deskopt PC with HDD boots in 4 minutes.

My modern PC boots in 15 seconds. Uses Windows 8

Is it a new one? SSD or HDD? if HDD how many RPMs?

Yes its new and that boot time is with my new SSD

before i got SSD i had a 5400RPM Drive and it still booted in under 30 seconds.

Haha then something must be wrong with my old desktop's HDD.

You can take a shower or prepare the dinner in that time, no biggie. You should learn multitasking.

The minor difference in heat generated and the power consumption don't really bother me but the 1 min 8 sec. boot time seems awfully long.

honestly though, how often are you going to cold boot?  i cold boot my vita like once every 6 or more months and only when something hangs.  there is some bug i've hit a few times with purchasing something on psn that hangs my vita so unless that happens it is always in standby.

the power consumption in standby mode worries me more and to be honest,.. it's not a worry about the system itself but rather the tree-hugger part of me that thinks an aweful lot of power is going to be wasted by these next gen consoles.   won't stop me from doing it but i'll feel bad from time to time.  :(

I'm confused now, when I shutdown my PS3 and later hit the power switch is that considered a cold boot? Or do I have to unplug it for it to be a cold boot? Or do the next gen HD twins have a different way of powering down?

Signature goes here!

It's a trick! They will add that minute to the playtime of games to make them seemingly longer!

“It appeared that there had even been demonstrations to thank Big Brother for raising the chocolate ration to twenty grams a week. And only yesterday, he reflected, it had been announced that the ration was to be reduced to twenty grams a week. Was it possible that they could swallow that, after only twenty-four hours? Yes, they swallowed it.”

Xbox One runs quieter during gaming:

Idle: Xbox One - 42dB, PS4 - 42dB
Blu-Ray: Xbox One - 43dB, PS4 - 42dB
Gaming: Xbox One - 42dB, PS4 - 51dB

Xbox One draws less power (except in Standby-Mode):

Idle: Xbox One - 65W, PS4 - 80W
Blu-Ray: Xbox One - 77W, PS4 - 100W
Gaming: Xbox One - 125W, PS4 - 131W

Xbox One's "case"/hottest spot temperature is only higher during gaming (PS4 vent peaks at 50°C)

Idle: Xbox One - 35°C, PS4 - 40°C
Blu-Ray: Xbox One - 37°C, PS4 - 41°C
Gaming: Xbox One - 49°C, PS4 - 44°C

From Digital Foundry's "Hardware Test".

I'm kinda sceptical about the cold boot, wouldn't that be longer than the 360?

The 1 minute cold boot makes sense thought the Xbone has a powerful OS and it was designed to be on stand by mode for years.

This is a bombshell how?
-how many people unplug their devices after using them....
-15w ... thats another lightblub
-49 degrees =cold

cry me a river

49 celsius is cold? That's like 120 farhenheit.

Also yeah, it's like an extra bulb. A bulb that stays on all day long. That adds up.

I always do a full shutdown with my PS4, never use standby. I guess i'm just cheap.

iPhone = Great gaming device. Don't agree? Who cares, because you're wrong.

Currently playing:

Final Fantasy VI (iOS), Final Fantasy: Record Keeper (iOS) & Dragon Quest V (iOS)

Got a retro room? Post it here!

Sounds like booting a Windows PC.

Sony are hardware wizards. It amazes me that the PS4 produces less heat despite almost everything going against it. Better prepare for the "My X1 is broken" threads xD

I'm curious about what the reviews will be on Amazon. Sony's sticking with 1% failure rate so if they're telling the truth - the response should be similar.
