Forums - Sony - Microtransactions come to Gran Turismo 6

Gran Turismo 6 will be the first game in the series to feature microtransactions, Sony has confirmed.

A post on the PS Blog explains how in-game credits will be implemented, alongside announcing digital pre-orders are now being accepted.

You'll be able to purchase bundles of 500K, 1 million, 2.5 million or 7 million credits from the PS Store that can in turn be exchanged for cars and parts. A sample chart, which you can see below, gives you an example of all the cars that you could purchase for 1 million credits.

While it's been confirmed that microtransactions will feature in the game, Sony hasn't announced how much the in-game credits will cost in terms of real-world cash.

There's also some confusion over whether these cars will be purchasable without spending real-world money. It seems like the option to throw some cash around is literally just to speed things up, though some fans have expressed concern over what this will do to the game's progression if you can purchase a charged-up supercar too early on.

The post does confirm, however, that the GT 6 Special Edition will be available for digital pre-order as well, offering the game, 20 extra cars from the Torque, Performance, Adrenaline and Velocity packs, custom PSN avatars, paint chips, race suits and helmets.

Gran Turismo 6 will be available exclusively on PlayStation 3 from December 6.

Personally I don't mind micotransactions and I'm sure the game will be great

Booo. I hope they don't make it like GTA:O. Nerfing everything that makes money.

Is this like where

1. You have to play and win lots of races before purchasing cars with in-game money
2. Impatient people use real world money to get these cars quicker

If these are the two options then it is not too bad. I just hate it when people have an unfair advantage because they just wanna spend real world money to one up people.

I also hope they do not turn the game into a complete grind fest in order to be able to gain enough credits to purchase other cars

Nobody's perfect. I aint nobody!!!

Killzone 2. its not a fps. it a FIRST PERSON WAR SIMULATOR!!!! ..The true PLAYSTATION 3 launch date and market dominations is SEP 1st

i have no problem with it and forza has it also now. if people really want a car so bad to pay for it instead of earning credits with races, it's their own problem. will only help the developer to have more money to invest in the next game.

well, i don't like when you can buy a good car to be better as other people online who have to play 200 hours to get the same car so that there should be some measurements against it. maybe an online mode where you can only drive cars you really earned with driving and one for people who want to use their purchased cars.

but as long as you can't buy success against other people and as long as you can get the cars also with credits earned in the game, everything is fine.

Its pretty easy to earn money in previous gran turismo's, i just hope they havent reduced prize money significantly to make us purchase in game credits.

Fail no matter what :-/ although GT is a kind of game when you sometimes are forced to grind when you want some cars for example, and that was present even when there were no microtransactions so it somehow "fits" this game, still I don't like the fact itself that microtransactions are making it's way to console games that aren't F2P.

So it is happening...PS4 preorder.

Greatness Awaits!

You don't need that... in fact the game is better without it... I don't like the 1 million credits that you receive in the preorder at some stores.

Seems like it's the same as Dead Space 3s system whereby everything you can buy via microtransactions can be unlock just by simply playing the game normally. I'm fine with this sytem so long as it aint like P2W games like Planetside 2 and Tribes Ascend where you have to clock 1000+ hours to afford anything worth mentioning.

pretty much this.   won't affect me at all but for the impatient the developer can earn a bit more.  microtransactions done well.
