Forums - Nintendo - Should Nintendo buy third party support?

i think nintendo does not make a fully 3D online Pokemon game because then they will make something imposible to be done in a handle so after that fully 3d pokemon people will not want to go back to the handle ones because they have a superior console version, also i think pokemon game(main series) are only meant to be portable "pocket monsters" anybody.

On the topic:
Nintendo does not need to buy tp franchises because they already have amazing 1 party support maybe secure a couple of exclusive like the case of monster hunter 3 and fatal frame IV but tp will eventually come cause they want money so why should nintendo waste their money on 3 party games or studios if they will eventualy come sooner or later.

Around the Network

I'm not sure they bought exclusivity to RE4. My understandng was they moved RE to the Cube because they were building stronger relations with Nintendo, and the Cube was a more powerful system than the PS2 (for obvious reasons, XBox was not considered).

If anyone can confirm that they did or did not pay for this support, it would be appreciated.

As for buying Wii support, why bother? They have the best selling console in all regions. The games are much easier and cheaper to develop. Lower cost + higher user base = $$$$. Why should they add more to the pile?

That's not to say that they shouldn't go out of their way to encourage support. Better access to development tools, advisors for implementing the Wii, Mii usage, even renting/loaning out franchise mascots (ala Link in Soul Caliber). I'd also offer free demo downloads via the VC for any game that meets a certain "quality threshold" - imagine how that could have helped the sales of Zack and Wiki!

As long as Suikoden 6 comes for the Wii, I will be a happy camper :)

The real question is, why don't 3rd parties get a clue and just start making more good Wii games? Don't they have market analysts who are supposed to see the potential for profit there?

The Wii is selling just fine as it is, and it's making very good profit for Nintendo, so I don't see why Nintendo should spend money to educate 3rd parties. I say let them sort it out by themselves.

C'mon, you've been around long enough to sing the tune:

No one expected the Wii to sell this well. Most 3Ps abandoned the Cube and had little faith in the new system. By the time they caught on, it was too late to capitalize before the holiday season. Supposedly most developers have moved more resources to Wii development, but because of the time involved, we wouldn't see the results for at least a year - which would mean mid-2008 to early 2009.

You are both majorly wrong. UbiSoft and many other leading publishers like Sega were backing Nintendo from the get go. Even from before the revolution was unvieled, however third parties have been slow to invest in Nintendo Wii specific technology.

Many publishers and studios are only now considering building graphics engines or tools. Without the tools companies have relied heavily on porting games and using existing PS2/GameCube technology. With studios let JetBlack and Factor5 promising to use engines built from the groundup for the Wii I think 2009 will be an amazing year.

So your both wrong and right and alot of people think Factor5 is being liscensed a first party IP!
