The numbers dropped because people just stopped putting their console vertically. Firmware issues, especially ones that cause a rare problem isn't a good reason to wait to buy a system because the vast majority of users didn't and probably never would have experienced it. That's why it took them 5 months to fix it. You're right, I shouldn't have assumed you were talking about the actual issue the user was having. I should've figured you could have been talking about general problems for no real reason at all. One example (there are plenty of others) would be when a cars get manufactured at different times of the year. An earlier batch may be just fine, but a later bstch may need to be recalled due to a new issue. |
Disagree greatly with this point. Let's assume your "excuse" worked in NA. It did NOT work in mine. What is the explanation then? In my region the only system people used vertically and horizontally was the PS2. All the oher systems (DC, GC, XB) were used the standard way, and yet the numbers still dropped after launch. I am one of them.
I disagree with your logic here - wholly. If that were the case then Microsoft would have fixed the RROD issue MUCH sooner given the seriousness and pervasiveness of the problem. Also ... you're missing the forest for the trees. You're attacking the issues in isolation while I am discussing the synergistic combination of different problems which are usually at launch, which then dwindle in subsequent months because of debugging and what not.
No reason at all? Clearly you have not been paying attention. The issue the user was having is a subset of what can go wrong at launch, which I highlighted. Maybe your response could have been different perhaps? Nevertheless, subset or not it still adds to why I think it is best for me to abstain for a while. I've seen zero reason to do otherwise based on your arguments (but that's okay .. we agree to disagree). If you wish to be an early adopter then you can beta test it for me - along with other users - and I'll gladly pay attention to your feedback (just like the users on Amazon who gave the PS4 a 1* rating for the DOA issue and those who gave 5* for being fine).
So we're talking about consoles and you jump to the auto sector? Can you not demonstrate your point with examples that occured in the console space? I am aware of what you are saying, but what I am asking is for you to demonstrate your point with precedents in the console space. Console =/= Car.
Out of coriosity ... would your reaction have been the same if my post was in relation to the Xbox One? Would you have even responded anyway? ... or just gloss it over?
Playstation = The Beast from the East

Sony + Nintendo = WIN! PS3 + PSV + PS4 + Wii U + 3DS
