Forums - Nintendo - Where do you see the Advance Wars series going?

Currently I have Advance Wars and Advance II: Black Hole Rising having not purchased  DS yet.  However I still know a fair amount on the series' two newest titles.  While reading IGN's review of the latest, Advance Wars: Days of Ruin and how they had taken thngs out, added stuff in, yet the core was still there.. I got into wondering what will be done to series in the next outing, if there is another addition to this series I rate highly.

As it stands now there have been two titles per console, yet that may change depending on the life of the DS and the popularity of the series.  I thought, if there is something unique about the "DS 2" if you will, then it will tie that into the game as Dual Strike did.  Or of course there could be a third title on the DS, but I really do not know what they would do with it.  There is the possibility that the end of the DoR storyline screams sequel as the very first title did (to me anyway), and so they could have another game using the new art design on the DS.

Even then you must think "What now?"  More art design changes, subtle or drastic gameplay changes or what, 'm not sure.  So I just wanted to ask you all where you think the series may or may not go.  I for one would not mind a title to come to the Wii, I know Battalion Wars but I mean a turnbased game.  Even if it is just an embellished  version of an existing title that could come out on Wii Ware or VC or something incorporating online play which would be nice.  Or even perhaps a medley of the currently released games coming to the Wii in one purchase with online play.

So yea, anyway enough of me typing my brainstorm, what do you guys think?

I don't like the DoR storyline or darker theme, I preferred the more cartoony style of the previous games, if the next game stays with this darker theme i'll probably pass on it

Predictions:Sales of Wii Fit will surpass the combined sales of the Grand Theft Auto franchiseLifetime sales of Wii will surpass the combined sales of the entire Playstation family of consoles by 12/31/2015 Wii hardware sales will surpass the total hardware sales of the PS2 by 12/31/2010 Wii will have 50% marketshare or more by the end of 2008 (I was wrong!!  It was a little over 48% only)Wii will surpass 45 Million in lifetime sales by the end of 2008 (I was wrong!!  Nintendo Financials showed it fell slightly short of 45 million shipped by end of 2008)Wii will surpass 80 Million in lifetime sales by the end of 2009 (I was wrong!! Wii didn't even get to 70 Million)

An Advance Wars game without Andy has no soul.

I forsee a barren future for Advance Wars should its later incarnations also be Andy-less.

I missed Andy at first, but I like Will more as a character. I liked the story more over-all as well. I am really hoping for another entry on the DS but I doubt it is coming. There is some hope though as the Nintendo Wars series had only had one entry per console before Advance Wars so there is hope.

Personally I am hoping the next series has a different setting. The improvements from Advance Wars 2 were so small in comparison it is amazing. It is almost like they felt trapped when making a sequel and tried to keep everything they could rather than tossing out some old stuff.

I loved Dual Strike....but I'm not so hot on Days of Ruin.

My Complaints:

1) They removed leveling up your CO's. That was one thing that kept me going on Dual Strike. It was a big chunk of strategy. You could only apply four "enhancements," so you had to choose wisely based on CO, Field conditions, opposing CO, etc..

2) The CO "powers" just plain suck. In Dual Strike, you could level up your character to make the meter fill faster and land a lethal super power midway through the battle. In DoR, by the time you build up the meter, the battle has pretty much been decided one way or the other an your power won't change that.

3) As far as I can tell, you can't control the allied CO's units. This is especially annoying in a couple of missions. The worst one was protecting the blue recon jeep and infantry unit. The stupid computer didn't even move the characters to their fullest ability. I was so pissed. I had to play that level like four times before beating it.

4) The game was too thick with moral rhetoric. "Is a clone a human?" "Would you sacrifice a few for the good of many?" "Is a soldier still a soldier if there are no orders to follow?" "If lying to people can give them hope and happiness, is it bad?" and on and on and on....

5) What the hell is up with the Training Missions all over the campaign map? If I want to play training missions, I'll go to the War Room. Of course, without the ability to level up, what's the point of playing extra missions?

6) "If there's life, there's hope." Ugggghhhh. Every time he says it, I want to barf.

To sum it up, I played Dual Strike over four hours a day, ever day, for three months. I was hooked. Days of Ruin...I haven't touched it in over a week and I just picked up Proffessor Layton, because I want to play my DS again.

Hopefully, they do the next one right.

My End of 2008 Hardware Predictions (console only):

Wii : 50 million

360: 28 million

PS3: 24 million

These predictions were made on January 3rd and won't be revised

I think we're going to see it return to the old art style. I think Days of Ruin was an experiment, rather than a progression.

Crusty VGchartz old timer who sporadically returns & posts. Let's debate nebulous shit and expand our perpectives. Or whatever.

Ah we disagree greatly here, I couldn't have been happier hearing the CO powers had been toned down.  In the previous, they could pretty much make or break the match taking out any need for strategy using your troops.

For me, someone who put 300 hours into Dual Strike, I am liking DOR much better. For me, the gameplay became too unbalanced when Super CO powers came into effect, especially when playing 4 players with 2 on each side. I would have to dumb down my team to get a challenge as it was too easy to wipe out the opposition. The balance is perfect in DOR, and it is more of a strategic game (in the play field as opposed to the selection screen) than Dual Strike. Plus DOR is online, and nothing better than kicking your friend's butt.

When I saw first screenshots of DoR, I said that that game is not "Advance war-ish" at all, and it's bassicly diffirent game, yet have the same gameplay. The only thing I like about this game is the story (I like post-apocaliptic-like stories). I'll say it's avarage 3rd party game mixed with Advance Wars gameplay.

i have never been able to get into teh RTS b/c i dont like having to follow so many stories----i could proably get into one if it was a more limited field of battle
