I loved Dual Strike....but I'm not so hot on Days of Ruin.
My Complaints:
1) They removed leveling up your CO's. That was one thing that kept me going on Dual Strike. It was a big chunk of strategy. You could only apply four "enhancements," so you had to choose wisely based on CO, Field conditions, opposing CO, etc..
2) The CO "powers" just plain suck. In Dual Strike, you could level up your character to make the meter fill faster and land a lethal super power midway through the battle. In DoR, by the time you build up the meter, the battle has pretty much been decided one way or the other an your power won't change that.
3) As far as I can tell, you can't control the allied CO's units. This is especially annoying in a couple of missions. The worst one was protecting the blue recon jeep and infantry unit. The stupid computer didn't even move the characters to their fullest ability. I was so pissed. I had to play that level like four times before beating it.
4) The game was too thick with moral rhetoric. "Is a clone a human?" "Would you sacrifice a few for the good of many?" "Is a soldier still a soldier if there are no orders to follow?" "If lying to people can give them hope and happiness, is it bad?" and on and on and on....
5) What the hell is up with the Training Missions all over the campaign map? If I want to play training missions, I'll go to the War Room. Of course, without the ability to level up, what's the point of playing extra missions?
6) "If there's life, there's hope." Ugggghhhh. Every time he says it, I want to barf.
To sum it up, I played Dual Strike over four hours a day, ever day, for three months. I was hooked. Days of Ruin...I haven't touched it in over a week and I just picked up Proffessor Layton, because I want to play my DS again.
Hopefully, they do the next one right.
