I know Nintendo should go back to their roots but this is going a bit too far

Nintendo needs to make a series of small downloadable games with online functionality (plus Miis) based around these sorts of games.
Mahjongg (the real game, not the solitaire thing) would make for a great game to sit down and play against other players around the world, and would suit the Wii U nicely.

Yup, they've never stopped. You can even get Mario themed cards as a choice for your coins in the Nintendo Club.
