No, but remote play with different images started with the wii u. Heck even remote play with the tv still getting an output started with the wii u.

So we've come full circle. Sony -> Nintendo -> Sony. I wonder if Nintendo can take anything from Sony's remote play this time. Maybe do something with 3DS.

It clearly has the option to work this way, anyone that has a VIta and the latest firmware can see theres 2 ways of connecting it, one to mirror the screen and another for it to be its own screen for games that support it.

Oh no that second option is not for remote play, but for the same second screen experiences that smartphones are getting.
