17 - After playing the first game in this series I did not think they would be able to top it with a sequel and they did in every way including even DLC. ...crumpocalypse.

16 - One of the best soundtracks of the entire series, and widely credited as one of the first non-linear action adventure games that was actually successful due to its path selection and multiple character choices. It also featured an "intro" that was not direct movements / animations taken from gameplay. The previous entry in the series was also considered non linear but was not met with praise by critics or gamers. Many consider that previous cryptic game to be a cult classic in the series decades later.

15 - An often forgotten or even undiscovered gem by many gamers due to its movie tie in. Not only one of the best comic / movie IP games ever but the best arcade machine action side scroller ever made. It never made it to any home console and has gone on to be one of the hardest to find and pricier arcade cabinets on earth, and highest request for HD remakes to its company.

18. The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess
GameCube/Wii (2006)
Nintendo EAD 3

We all remember it, the moment when The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess was unveiled to the world. Grown men cried. Wars stopped. Dogs and cats came to love one another. You know the drill. But Twilight Princess is more than just a flash in the pan in the gaming world. No, the game is another amazing chapter in The Legend of Zelda franchise. Great dungeons, fantastic boss battles (Stallord!), great cast of characters (including the best sidekick character in Midna), and a final showdown that still gives me the shivers just thinking about it. Twilight Princess may be the most conventional of the 3D Zelda games, but it pulls everything off so well that the game's freshness is never really an issue. Just an epic adventure and an epic quest worthy of the greatest of heroes.

17. Okami
PlayStation 2/PlayStation 3/Wii (2006)
Clover Studios

Despite the success of the 3D Zelda titles, it's remained an insular sub genre throughout the years. But in 2006, Capcom and Clover Studios created a game that would stand among the much beloved Zelda franchise: Okami. And while it used many ideas and tropes of the genre, Okami wasn't hesitant to stand apart from the pack: It's gorgeous art style and atmosphere brought the ancient land of Nippon to life with stunning beauty, and to this day it remains of the most beautiful games I've ever seen. With such tried and true gameplay elements matched with such a world as Nippon, Okami hooked right from the get go. It's clever use of the Celestial Brush (made even better through the WiiMote) and engrossing story kept me going for hours upon hours. In the end, Okami was one of the biggest plesant surprises I've ever played in gaming. A game that has truly left it's mark in my heart.

^^ Every year I tell myself I should play Okami after reading your post. Ban me in 2014, if I haven't played it yet.

Signature goes here!

16. The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim
PC/PlayStation 3/Xbox 360 (2011)
Bethesda Game Studios

This game is truly a paradox in my mind. It's combat is dull (unless you make a game within the game like I did. Stealth attacks for everyone!), dungeons are given cookie cutter designs, puzzles are hilariously simple, the inventory system is clunky and (literally) cumbersome, the game is full of bugs and glitches, and the people of Skyrim are devoid of any character or any other interesting qualities. And yet here we are at number 16. For all the criticisms I can lay on it, I can name twice as many praises. It boasts my favorite soundtrack of all time (Yes, for any medium. Jeremy Soule did something amazing here), the worldbuilding is staggering, the world and scope of Skyrim is an adventurer's dream (from the highest peak to the deepest dungeon... I've never been so content traveling a gaming world before), and I have to give Bethesda a lot of credit for the power and choices that it gives to the player. In the end, while I believe that The Elder Scolls V: Skyrim is the least "perfect" game on this list, I also believe that it's one of the greatest examples of what makes this hobby of ours so amazing and unique. Now back to listening to more of the soundtrack.

Quoted.

I loved the Wii version for its use of the WiiMote as the Celestial Brush (and it's available on your Wii U via backwards compatibility), plus there's also the HD version on the PS3.
