Forums - Gaming - Do You Think Kojima Productions Would Be Fine If Hideo Kojima Retired?

Kojima Productions would be...

screwed 9 52.94%

the same 5 29.41%

better off 1 5.88%

see results 2 11.76%

Total:17

So I was watching the MGS V Red Band trailer again and I got to thinking, what is gonna happen to Kojima Productions when Kojima finally retired.  He is 50 years old now and tbh I don't think hes gonna be doing this much longer, he already said he wants to take a year break after they are finished with MGS V so you can see hes started to feel the fatigue from making game after game.  Tbh I think if he leaves then they are gonna be in a lot of trouble.  I mean when you look at MGS Rising when it was being made by Kojima Productions, Kojima gave the project over to a team without him while he finished Peace Walker and we all know how that turned out...Now I don't think things would be that bad but I think we would see a significant drop in the quality of their games.  So how do you guys think Kojima Productions would be?

Btw here's the MGS V trailer I was looking at, 8:10-8:30 gives me goosebumps every time

Change of leadership always results in changes in whatever the administration/group does.

Now whether they are screwed or not depends on who and what the successor does - so its too early or unknown to decide.

Even if he didnt retire anytime soon, there's always the risk of him screwing the series over himself.

When the games he's directed have been so good for so long that risk is very minimal.

I think they would be prepared for it. But it depends a bit on how he steps down. Miyamoto have stepped down step for step lately, getting less and less involved with big titles. I'm not sure if Kojima does the same.

As far as I know he hasn't stepped down at all yet and he's taking a year off after MGS V is done.  I assume the team is gonna have to start on the next project without him.

It would be screwed. Just look at what happened to Capcom Resident Evil,Devil May Cry & Megaman when Shinji Mikami,Keiji Inafune and Hideki Kamiya. Capcom didn't know what to do with that franchise and continue butchering them after all the key people behind it leaves the company

I think the Metal Gear series time has come and gone, it is very tired now.

I think they should pack it up, and split up the company, to create new startups with seed capital.

Do they have a successor in the works yet? Thats what kept Zelda going so strong. sure Miyamoto is still around but for a long time its been Aonuma's games and Miyamoto has little involvement. However I think MGS is the kind of game that dies with Kojima, except for remakes. hopefully the studio can move on to a new series after he leaves

Idk how you can see the MGS V footage and think it looks tired.  They are bringing so many new things to the series.

If you look at the video in the OP, at the end it lists Hideo Kojima as the producer, game designer and director with no one else mentioned except for people that worked on the graphics so it doesn't look like they have a successor yet.  Or Kojima just wants to take all the credit :P.

It would be really hard to say. It depends on who takes over kojima productions. If it's some director that is renowned for it's talent and experience then the studio should be fine for the most part but if it's replaced by a bad director then I guess they'd be screwed.
