Maybe.
It will win the 7th gen at the end of 8th.
But to take 2 gens to win its own gen is not winning for me.

Shouldn't be a problem, the PS2 sold another 44 million consoles after the PS3.

Yet again, the Ps2 had no competition whatsoever. It crushed the other consoles, and several price cuts after 2005 were the icing on the cake. You can't really say the same about the Ps3.

That's not entirely true.  Yes, the PS3 has stiffer competition than the PS2.  However, where the majority of its sales will be coming from the next few years, Europe (especially in developing countries) + Japan, it basically has no competition from the 360/Wii.  And there's no denying that the 360 is going to die much quicker than the PS3 in the coming years.

As far as price cuts go, the PS3 has much more room to cut than the PS2 did after the PS3's launch.  Sony dropped it to $129 a few months before the PS3 launch, and it only recieved one more price cut to $99 3 years later.  The PS3 is $199 for the 12GB model, while the 250GB is still $249.  I would imagine next year Sony will lower the 12GB to $149 and the 250GB to $199.  Then, the following year (maybe 2 years) the PS3 will finally hit $99, with the 250GB hitting $149.  This should definitely help it succeed the PS2 in those smaller EU countries Sony pushed it in when it was mostly dead in the US and Japan.

Japan support will go until at least 2015, the west will have much longer support from multiplats and such. But 3 major years of selling= 6m average a year. With a pricecut it might end up at 100m.

Edit: And even though the PSP has a different sales pattern and it is a handheld it sold 3m this year only 20% down from the year before. And 14m in the past 3 years after support has stopped. I think the PS3 will have stronger support then the PSP.

No it will hit 100 million unless Sony makes it 99 dollars

VITA 32 GIG CARD.250 GIG SLIM & 160 GIG PHAT PS3

Until before these year hollydays I thought it was very likely the PS3 reach 100mi.

But not any more.

Sales will fell hard for lastgen consoles in 2015. The only hope is emergent markets like China, India and Latin America.

how do people actually think PS3 could be $99??? The PS2 was a much more basic system, the PS3 is full of bells and whistles. Particularly the hard drive and wi-fi are worrying because they don't go down in price much at all. Then there is inflation. The only SKU that has any chance at $100 is the 360 4 gb version. You can't have a ps3 without a hard drive so it's just not happening.

currently playing: Skyward Sword, Mario Sunshine, Xenoblade Chronicles X

NO! Not possible. maybe 95 million. Bet me.
