Forums - Gaming - Pokemon X/Y Review

Lost me when you said you couldn't set up a team against all types in the beginning. Possibly with the exception of Dragon type you can cover pretty much all weaknesses after the first two roads. That's why X/Y is so great: Unlike the older games it DOES provide you with the necessary tools to build a good team early on.

I quit after Black. Pokemon Platinum/Black were so utterly boring that I couldn't fathom it anymore. Not going to be one of those people who complain about it and then purchase the next one though.... that makes no sense.

Had fun back in the day but i've moved on from Pokemon. I can't stand the easy repetitive gameplay of each title anymore.

I guess you only play action RPG's these days

I've actually noticed i've been finding significantly more enjoyment out of action rpgs such as Demon/Dark Souls or the Ys series. I want increased control, higher difficulty, stricter punishment for failure.

The Ys series is awesome.

But I still appreciate my strategy RPG's.

XY and genuinely much tougher than the past games. Now all it needs is a battle frontier and a Pokemon World Tournament.

I know this is your personal opinion and all but you should try focusing reviews on how you think people would like the game rather than closing it off to only your opinion(prob a poor way of saying that). People read reviews to see what is good and bad about the game from an honest stand point. But if you are just going to trash a game and ignore what people like or dislike in it then you are no longer being objective.   Instead people are going to get upset.

Example, I love ZombiU but i can see the flaws in it that could hinder the experience for others so i note that. Im not going to ignore those flaws just because i enjoyed it.

Or lets say I dislike a game like Journey for example. I still note what I think people will like in the game. Once again im not going to ignore the good aspects of it.

Every review is biased obviosly as it is your personal opinion but you should always try and be fair.  I doubt people are going to conitnue to consider your reviews fair if you continue to give one sided opinions.

I couldn't have said it better.

Try playing Pokemon competetively.

The pro players will eat you for breakfast and spit you against the wall when they are done with you, one of the many great spects of Pokemon: It is as deep as you want it to be.

But hey, Balance: 2/10 I guess

Hahahaha

Expected as per usual.Turn based combat has become so boring and uninteresting. Pokemon X and Y doesn't do anything to fix it. Oh well it's not like it matters much since I got burnt out on the franchise with black and white. Anyways agreed with the review.

Well if you're not a fan of the series than X/Y won't change your mind. It's basically a prettier version of the same game you've been playing for 20 years. Still lots of fun if the formula hasn't worn you out.

Sigs are dumb. And so are you!

They can make the games real time or they can do a Pokemon X Xenoblade cross over, or make the felynes into well Pokemon.

The core gameplay is always going to be that strategy

Reading the review, i dont think you really played the game to enjoy it.

You are not limited to only 6 pokémon. Especially with the new xp share. I have had more than 2 teams of pokémon. I have tried to reduce that cause i was taking too long to advance through the game. So i have about 9 i swap back in and out depending on what i feel like using. Of course, these are not only cosmetic choices, they need to cover a wide array of types so i always have counters for any type of pokémon.
I am up to the 7th Gym i think. I am in a pretty cool part of the story. So far though, it hasnt amazed me the same way Black/White 2 did, but the presentation is definitly better and its far from beeing a bad game.
Also, im constantly changing my first line pokémon, i usually put in that spot the pokémon that is the least leveled from my team to increase his leveling pace so i never had the problem of always using the same pokémon. Of course if you always keep the same one, he is gonna become a powerhouse before all others.

In conclusion, i think you dont like pokémon games. I dont know why you thought this one would be any different. The combat has not changed and will never change, because it works and its what pokémon is about. I dont think your mindset going in was the best one to enjoy the game as some of those criticisms are purely self-inflicted.

Hahahahaha no, that's now how Pokemon is balanced at all. See the metagame revolves around strategy. Pokemon with bad stats are perfectly usable due to utility and making use of various strategies. Its actually balanced far better. But if you take it on the surface that's what it looks like. The competititve community has also balanced competitive play themselves with the various clauses, that eliminate any sort of randomness from the games.

And why are you wasting all that time making a perfect team? You're just wasting your time making a bad team. Try some in game mock battles (virtual simulation) or use a battle simulator to test out your teams. But making a perfect IV"d team is pointless without a clear strategy. Shit I only tend to max our 4 IV's in a mon and then Im done. My strategies are too good for the common folk.

XY are the best games in the series. HG SS is the second best.

Perfect IVs don't necessarily mean all max.  Escavalier with the worst speed IV and having Gyro Ball as one of the four attacks.  If he's going to go last anyways, what's the point in increasing his speed when there's more of a benefit to keep it reduced?

That being said.  Got bored of it after the fact, so quit.

If you've read my other reviews, I've stated that balance is the games balance and weight.  Gameplay takes priority for this title so the score is going to replicate that of gameplay, adding or losing a further point depending on how well the balance is.  Pokemon is not exclusively a multiplayer game.  There is also a single player experience packaged in, so the score shows as such.  Then again, we have these "competitive Pokemon players" who probably suck compared to the real competitive players mocking the review.
