Good news for all those late next-gen buyers. During a post-earnings financial call, Robert Kotick, activision's CEO hinted at an earlier price cut for both next-gen Sony and MS systems :

"They've made more investments in the back office than ever before. I think you've got lots of efficiency in manufacturing costs that could potentially drive hardware prices down sooner in the cycle," Kotick said about Microsoft and Sony. "There's no indication, from our perspective, that you're going to see anything other than a very successful next seven or eight years."

Considering the high demand for both systems I wouldn't expect anything before late summer next year though. What are your thoughts ?

Year minimum for PS4, possibly earlier for XO, but only if its not selling well at the $500 price tag.

Oh, I´m sure MS will be able to lower the price relatively early.

When they stop bundling Kinect with the console.

I never buy consoles very early, one reason being the price and another being the lack of good games. I usually wait between 18 months and two years before I jump into a gen, by that time the tech is more stable, child diseases are gone, the price is usually a lot lower, especially on special deals and there are lots of games available for Platinum or Greatest Hits prices!

I just don't see the point of buying a console day one.

See, I'm the reverse. I'm seeing plenty of good games available Day 1 on the PS4. My most anticipated on is Knack. There are also:

Killzone: SF

FIFA 14

Lego Marvel Super Heroes

Need For Speed: Rivals

Resogun 

MS probably less than a year. PS4 after it's first year but before it's second.

I will get the XB1 next fall when the price is cut by $50-100. I only hope that they DO NOT release a kinectless sku.

You're right. They should maintain the bundling for more than a year.

Ultimately I believe a kinectless SKU should be released, and that hopefully the kinect will have gained enough traction by then so that half the customers go with a kinectfull SKU anyway

My only worry is that they might not have enough Kinect software at launch. Hpefully they provide some free kinect software with every SKU.
