Yup. Even end of gen games on wii u will blow our minds.

Last gen, hardware was unique and required a different approach to programming to fully utilize, such as the PS3 CELL processor, and the 360's IBM processor, along with limited RAM that required extensive optimization to make games run at all.
This gen, 2 of the consoles will be X86 based, so developers already have extensive knowledge of how to program for it. The differences over time won't be as dramatic, aside from the Wii U; Its IBM cpu and edram makes it different to program for, meaning games will look better over time and improve. The other consoles will remain relatively the same.

And that's just flat out wrong. This gen should have the largest difference between launch and end of gen.

I don't see how. If the hardware is already being almost fully utulized, then the differenes between this year and in 7 years won't be as mindblowing as like resistance 1 and uncharted 1 to killzone 3 and the last of us.

Don't confuse "easy to code for" as "almost fully utulized."

I don't believe the consoles have been already fully utilized right now, however devs are definitely tapping into as much of the raw power as they can currently. Considering how some current-gen 3rd party ports can't even run in 1080p60 easily means that in terms of power, they're close to fully using it. In terms of optimizing, to take better advantage of that power, it will take time. But I agree, there's no way the games will see the same graphical leap as the gen goes on. There is no "Cell processor" nor any "completely custom GPU" to deal with, nor are there any new techniques required to learn, nothing like when first entering the world of programmable GPUs, one of the major factors that contributed to the evolution of graphics with the passage of the generation. So optimizing the API's with the game engines will be the one of the only major hurdles to jump over.

You realise you are dealing with gamers more concerned with their noble console war then facts or logic right? LOL.

lol yeah id agree with you there.  "My plastic box is better than your plastic box" ;)

but if one plastic box has higher specs and/or more features/ features they like, is it not worthy tell claim one plastic box is better than the other.

you can simplify any thing to make it sound trivial.

"my bank account is better than your bank account"

but i have $10,000 more than you, and i earn 3% interest with my bank, you dont even have $500 and are earning .03% interest.

"hey, whats the big deal, they are just bank accounts, they are all the same"

Umm why post this, we all know it is obvious, both systems will improve.................

Because we have had about 5 threads in the last week and half reach well over 200 comments based off resolution and now frame rate.  A lot of people are acting as if these games determines the entire generation.

So no i would not say ALL KNOW

I think most of those comments are talking about the difference between the PS4 and XB1, rather than early gen vs late gen. I think most know the games will improve, but if we assume that the games for each platform are improved at the same rate then the gap in quality between the two will always be there.

From what i've been hearing, these new consoles have similar architecture to that of your standard desktop PC, so I don't see how graphics could drastically improve.

The differences between early and late gen for PS4/Xbone will not be as dramatic as with PS3 and 360 because the newer systems much easier to develop for off the bat, but as with any gen there will be a noticeable upgrade over time.
Same goes for Wii U; we will see games on it later on that put anything released so far to shame technically.
