Kojima did the same with MGS2.. just showed Snake first to disapoint us when the games releases.

C'mon, Raiden wasn't THAT bad. The only complain is that everyone wanted to play as Snake, which is understandable. Raiden just happened to be the new protagonist, which brought upon him unfair hate xD People should have yell at Kojima, not at the poor boy.

Years later we have MGS3 mocking Raiden, though, as Raikov. But since Raikov did seem to appear in The Phantom Pain trailer, I wonder if he would be a character with some degree of interactivity. He was an asshole, though. Totally different than Raiden, but in the worst sense.

I got Platinum in MGS2 a month ago... Raiden is even worst than THAT BAD.
