Forums - Nintendo - Wii U: Nintendo Sells Under 500,000 in Six Months

Early this year or late last year Iwata lowered their sales forecast to 4.5 million sold by last March 2013- Obvioulsy they missed that forcast by a lot since they just passed that number in October

So the last revised forcast they missed badly, the 9 million forcast they will miss badly- Maybe Japanese business cultre is different but If he wer a CEO in the US I do t see how he could keep his job after missing forcast so badly and failing to adjust forecast when he KNOWS they will not come close to selling 8.5 million consoles between now and March 2014

???

3.91m shipped as of end of September.

8.5 million in the next 6 months is nuts.

6 million though, that's manageable. Not sure why you guys are so insistent that Iwata is on drugs (or should be) because of that number. Wii U sales are close behind the 360 for the past few weeks, and unlike the 360, the Wii U has several major exclusives coming in the next 6 months.

6 mil through the next two quarters isn't exactly a sure thing, but it's realistic. 8.5 mil... that's very optimistic. Probably too optimistic. It doesn't mean Iwata should be committed, though.

360 shipped 1.2m this past Q, WiiU 300k. Wiiu is 1/4 the 360.

Wii U was 1/4 the 360, before its price cut, in the quarter GTAV was released. Take a peek at the weekly.

Which means the last week is an anomoly. Obviously it's going to continue to rise but we don't know the ratio between 360 and WiiU throughout the holiday will be.

You mean the last three consecutive weeks? Obviously all anomalies. Consecutive anomalies.

Yeah, and the imminent launch of the PS4 and the One probably won't have any effect on the Wii U either, right? There is no way the Wii U will sell anywhere near 6 million units more by March 2014. Hell, it could take it a year from now to manage that. My year end prediction is probably spot on, only a year too early. My predictions were pretty damn pessimistic but will still be off by millions for 2013.

The thing simply isn't moving and Iwata could end up looking foolish, especially with these losses on hardware and overall poor fiscal result they're bound to see again.

That doesn't mean they're going to sell the same throughout the holiday though.

Well it certainly doesn't mean they're going to sell worse.

What it means is that right now, without Wii Fit / Wii Sports / Mario / Donkey Kong, the Wii U is holding steady just behind the 360, which has no comparable exclusives releasing within the next 6 months.
