"Nintendo's target was to sell 9 million Wii U units by the end of the 2014 financial year(Editor's note: Nintendo's fiscal year ends in March 2014); a target which it now seems very unlikely to meet, seeing as lifetime sales of the console currently sit at 3.91 million units. Despite this, it's opted not to modify the target."

No IGN, do your research SMH, 9m for the FY ending in March. Not 9m LTD by end of 2014 ...

Is it true Iwata still refuses to revise that 9m estimate?

Yeah, they haven't changed it. They never hit their home console forecasts (at least for the past 4/5 years) so I think the majority of investors have cottoned onto the fact they're ... worthless.

It's insulting on Nintendo's behalf tbh.

I don't see why he would, they revised their first fiscal forecast easily enough. Nintendo are usually quite moderate with their projections, perhaps Iwata simply wants to keep investors's faith for the holiday season? Who knows. Not that they'll love him when he misses that target grossly either.

I mean, he basically expects to sell ~6 million Wii Us by March. It seems pretty delusional.

The price drop occurred on September 20, so there hasn't been much data involving the price drop. It's not good, but it's a step in the right direction.

At this point, it just seems like a bad joke. The system hasn´t even sold 4 million in almost a year (!), and yet he´s still expecting the same optimistic results. He must have tremendous faith in Mario 3D World, WiiFit U and NSMBU bundle, for them to make the system sell ~6 million in 5 months.

Are the 6Mil SW WiiU only (seems unrealistc)? It's not very clear in the article.

EDIT: Actually seems to be WiiU only. Pretty sure Virtual Console stuff is included, but that's still not too bad.

It is pretty weird, he stands the risk of losing all credibility with both consumers and investors, not to mention the press, which holds a lot of power over the two previously mentioned instances.

  1. if he lowers the prediction and it sells less faith of investors will be completly lost, if he lowers it too much people will panic.

Anyway christmas and mario and the pick up in japan gives at least hope

No, he expects 8.5m more WiiUs by March >_> (9m for the fiscal year). That is just crazy, considering it's only at 500k in half the time now. 5m would be reasonable (and even then I think that's still a bit high).

Well, I thought 6 million was high..8.5 is really insane...hasn´t anyone, any investor, called him out on those unrealistic goals?

Investor? His goddamned doctor should be calling!
