They actually mentioned DK64 in the Q&A session and talked about getting the balance right (or not in that case!). One of the devs jokingly hanged his head in shame... apparently it was a nightmare to test too, lol.

So I doubt it'll be quite as bad as DK64. They want to make the collectables meaningful rather than just a collection of random crap to bulk out the game.

I found Banjo Kazooie to be fun and DK I think went overboard on the collectibles, but those games were fun in general, I think.
