The Directs last year were by far my favorite. I much prefer Directs that focus on only one game, rather than having Directs that focus on multiple games. I hate that they went back to the old way, because they always end up disappointing. There was not one single-game-focused Direct that wasn't fantastic, where as most multiple-game directs are disappointing. I can only think of two that were great: The one that revealed XCX, and the one that revealed Hyrule Warriors.

Meanwhile, both Smash Directs were awesome, the Tomodatchi Life Direct almost made me buy the game, the Mario Kart 8 Direct was amazing, the Hyrule Warriors Direct was great, the Bayonetta 2 direct was fantastic, and the two recent XCX Japanese-only Directs hype me through the roof. Not one of them was just good, and definitely not disappointing.

They make game-specific directs to what Nintendo imagines is a big release. Splatoon is more than likely getting one, the next Wednesday we could get a Mario Party 10 direct but that game isn't popular amongst hardcore gamers so it's a waste of time.

Personally, Wii U centric Directs are the best. I can fap to 2013 January direct to this day.
