And before you answer, think about it, don't think about us, the gamers/comsumers that follow gaming for a passion, think about the common comsumers, the one who buys smartphones and tablets. The casual market who bought Nintendo Wii, Xbox 360/Kinect and the PS3 for movies and games. Kinect Adventures and Wii Sport and Wii Sports Resort still sell like crazy each week.

To be honest, I don't just think smartphones and tablets are the only devices that's growing and replacing, I think its just Moble in general. Since tablets and phones are slowly turning into cameras and laptops, same thing could be happening with gaming to. With the Vita, 3DS, Nvidia Shield, ipod touch etc. As consumers want their camera and computer more mobile, maybe they want the same for gaming. Which explain why the 3DS is selling well.

the way i see it, the big three sold a lot of consoles last gen: 100 mill wii, 80 mill ps3, and 79 mill for xbox. That's over 260 million consoles, i don't think that 260 million consoles will be sold, but i still think a company could sell over 100 million consoles.

WiiU could sell significantly less than Wii (even 80m would mean a 20m reduction).  Xbox and Playstation could sell 80m each just like this gen then and we would still have an overall decline.  So yeah one declining and the others reaching previous gens or one significantly declining while the other 2 gain is plausible with an overall decline.

not looking good.  Well I mean 3DS is doing well, but it won't make up for the drop from Vita to PSP
