We all know what this will result in... better sales at Walmart for M-rated games.
You know, the "don't push the red button!" effect.
This won't spread. It gives BB and CC chance to make more money.

People get their socks in a bunch for nothing. I know what games I want. I don't care if I have to go in and ask the person for a covered game. Toys r us has all M rated games only behind the register. This doesn't affect me and I'm guessing most of the people on this site aren't affected either.
Now the logic. The logic is simple. Kids are easily impressionable. The idea of hiding the cover is to prevent the child from wanting an M rated game at all. If you think covers don't matter, how well do you think Halo 3 would have sold in America with the Dewey's Adventure cover? Odds are that kids aren't on the internet and have the knowledge of upcoming M releases. So by not seeing it they don't want it. I'm sure that M rated DVD covers are worse. The difference lies that their is not a real market for kids buying M rated movies. Their is however, an extremely large market for kids buying M rated games. And parents typically don't do their research to know the difference. They think I played contra when I was growing up, how much worse can today's games be?
^ I think Contra is much more scarring to any child than any game on market today. Nothing has ever reached the magnitudes of frustration, anger, and achievement as much as when I was playing Contra (Beating it with 3 lives is friken difficult even today, the other day I got the the last boss where I lost my last life).
Ugh... this is not good for the industry. Expect M rated games to become a thing of the past. If Walmart won't carry them properly, they won't get made anymore.
Prepare for termination! It is the only logical thing to do, for I am only loyal to Megatron.
I'm torn here. I definitely agree that this is an inappropriate step to take. It likens M rated games to porno mags rather than R rated films, which I think is a more comparable medium.
On the other hand, as someone with a strong distaste for blow-up-hookers-have-sex-with-aliens style games simply because their unwaveringly sophmoric and banal, I'm tempted to say I like it because it has negative effect on those games.
Ultimately, I'll have to say that the ends do not justify the means, and therefore I'm against it, but it's close.

How fucking stupid. Wal-Mart is really inconsistent about "content," they can sell R-rated movies but force musicians to edit their music in order to sell it. Not only that, but they sell guns, fatty foods, sharp objects and all sorts of things which could possibly be harmful to minors. If they weren't open 24 hours, I'd never shop there.
Let's pray Clinton doesn't win the election, or we'd have Games behind the counter like smokes. ;)
This is going too far. Unless 18 rated movies also get 'covered', What's the hell is going on with the censorship?
And no, I won't go to Walmart to buy games if they do this.
