I think I would add Elysium and After Earth at least to that, don't think they have made profit if we count marketing budget. Don't remember if any others.

Elysium did pretty good actually on a 115 million budget making 280 million.. marketing should have been around 50 to 70 million

After Earth had a 130 million budget and made 243 million... marketing budget was 100 million.. so its like break even/ small loss
after earth is just a bad movie so people also think it bombed hard.. but in reality it didn't bomb that hard

White House Down had a.. wait for it.. 150 million budget and it only made 205 million.. think the marketing should be in the range of Elysium..

Keep in mind that a studio only takes in about half of the box office earnings. The rest go to the theater.

I believe the Investors feel that the Xbox Division has not returned any investment at all (even after all the 360 profits) and that the current console strategy by taking loses at the beginning of the life cycle is not profitable.

Could be true, could be false but its more likely an investor power play to get more leverage in the company.

I and others, not just here, have broken down the EDD over the years and through Microsoft statements it's very easy to deduct that Xbox is by far and large the biggest money maker in that division.

Microsoft went on record around 07/08 saying the Xbox 360 hardware was now profitable. Since then there hasn't been any price cuts (just value added) and 2 redesigns to drive down costs.

Investors don't want to ditch Xbox because it isn't making any money, they want it gone because it isn't making enough money (in their opinion) and is detracting Microsoft from their main staples (Windows, Office).

Like I said, the facts and evidence is out there, you simply want to ignorantly believe what you want.


Analyst, whose very reputations depend on what comes out of their mouths say they are not making money. YOU and others, where ever there are have broken it down and came to the conclusion it is making money.

God forbid. This is pointless.

BTW I do not want to believe what I want. But I believe those "experts" any day over someone who post on these forums.

He said nothing about it making a loss, he simply advised MS to sell it to Samsung. Exactly what I was saying aobut the investors, they don't like that Xbox is apparantly causing MS to lose focus with Windows and Office (which is total BS).

NOTE: I did said that according to analyst MS were not making any money or making a loss. I am with those whose estimates point more in the direction that they are not making any money.

HA, changing the goal posts I see. It's true over the life of the Xbox franchise Microsoft have not made a profit on it, the original xbox made heavy losses and the 360's first couple of years with RROD were hefty losses. Since then, over the last 6 years, they've profited. That's all that matters, not what happened 6+ years ago, it's irrlevent today.

Over the last 6 years MS have made over $3 billion in the EDD. Fact. You have nothing to back up your claim Xbox isn't making any money other than "oh they have other products in there"
