Forums - Sony - Sony's Q2 FY2013 Earnings (PS3 2m / PSPVita 800k / ~$200m Loss)

Wow this is terrible.

how so?

if you look at this you can see sony is pulling themselves together. The only 'new' loss here is pictures. mobile and TV loss is decreasing with mobile almost making a profit. Game at a loss, probably because of ps4 r&d and maufacturing.

All by all, this isn't that bad and I see a positive trend for the future.

Sony should really follow Microsoft and start making money.

Bet reminder: I bet with Tboned51 that Splatoon won't reach the 1 million shipped mark by the end of 2015. I win if he loses and I lose if I lost.

Didn't they project a profit by now?

Imagine not having GamePass on your console...

93 million units of software? That's more than they did during the holidays last year. Very impressive.

If I'm reading this chart correctly, their financial services arm makes them the most income, has the best sales to income ratio and is showing signs of growth?   Searching wikipedia, it says it contains Sony Life Insurance and Sony Bank. Perhaps Sony should just drop electronics altogether and expand their financial business.  :P

Thanks. Does this mean that PS3 is understracked?

Like Vita/PSP it is impossible to know without the lifetime sales... for example if they overshipped in the in one quarter then the next quarter we can have SALES > SHIPPED.

So these numbers means only shipment... we need to know how is the lifetime sales to check if the amount in shelves are right.

Is sony still shipping the PS2?

I already saw: Q1 and Q2 don`t include Ps2 numbers.

I think PS3 is undertracked by about 100 or 200k. Or, we have a lot of Ps3 on shelves.

They said that.

Sales
increased 5.1% year-on-year (a 14% decrease on a constant currency basis) to 155.7 billion yen (1,588million U.S. dollars) primarily due to the favorable impact of foreign exchange rates. The decrease in sales on a constant currency basis was primarily due to a decrease in unit sales of PlayStation®2 (“PS2”), PlayStation®3 (“PS3”) and PSP® (PlayStation Portable) hardware, partially offset by increased PS3 software unit sales compared to the same quarter of the previous fiscal year.

So I undertand they are shiping PS2 yet but they are not showin in the numbers anymore.

Why are no console manufacturers making no money anymore? Ninendo losses, Sony losses, Xbox losses or making no money according to experts.

How long can this go on?

Sony is expected to make loss in Game division... they are manufacturing a new expensives consoles without sell nay. I'm surprised that Game division is only losing $8 million... it so good... PS4 will profit from day one if they continue with these low loses.
