BATMAN IS BACK!

28/Oct/2013

The third installment in Warner’s Batman: Arkham series debuts at No1 (as did the previous two), entitled ‘Batman: Arkham Origins’ (developed in-house by WB Games Montreal) and sells almost exactly the same in week 1 as the first in the series ‘Batman: Arkham Asylum’ (Sep 2009, developed by Rocksteady, published by Eidos).

The defining title in terms of week 1 sales was the second in the series ‘Batman: Arkham City’ (Oct 2011 with close to double the week 1 sales of the third installment, also developed by Rocksteady, published by Warner). The all-time best-selling Batman game in the UK is ‘Lego Batman: The Videogame’ from 2008 (published by Warner, developed by Traveller’s Tales). Rockstar/Take 2’s ‘GTA V’ (-28%) drops to No2 followed at No3 by EA’s ‘FIFA 14’ (-21%) and at No4 by Activision’s ‘Skylanders Swap Force’ (-50%). 2 titles climb back in to the Top 10 this week thanks to a successful hardware promotion: Warner’s ‘Lego The Lord of the Rings’ climbs 11 places to No8 (+266%) and Mind Candy’s ‘Moshi Monsters: Katsuma Unleashed’ climbs 20 places to No9 (+350%). Ubisoft debut at No15 with ‘Rocksmith 2014 Edition’, EA debut at No18 with ‘The Sims 3: Into the Future’ and Activision debut at No27 with ‘Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles’.

DS explosion this week! Lego LOTR at #11 and Moshi Monsters at #10, while the 3DS versions are nowhere to be found. No wonder Warner keep gimping the Vita/3DS versions of these games to keep making DS titles.

3 Vita and two Wii-U games in the top 40 as well, we must be approaching some kind of record.

Although, pretty terrible opening from Batman on Vita (and even worse on 3DS edit: Nvm, 3DS version didn't release this week); and terrible opening from Wii Party U (although it should have some legs).  Sonic has tumbled out of the top 40 too.

(For reference, Deus Ex Wii-U charted at #4 in the individual Wii-U charts).

Seems like a pretty low opening from that Sims 3 expansion pack as well.

Pleased Kingdom Hearts 3 is still doing well though. NFS: MW has hung around all year too, which is cool.

Good to see Killzone Mercenary still hanging and what three vita games!!

Bet with gooch_destroyer, he wins if FFX and FFX-2 will be at $40 each for the vita. I win if it dont

It seems that Wii Party flopped in UK (at least 1st week). Not an all intersting week, I'm waiting for week ending November 9th for that.

Guardian splits are up:

2% for Batman on Vita, so maybe ~ 2000 units? Terrible.

Apparently Animal Crossing got 101% of its sales from 3DS this week, which is interesting.

How long had Wii Party U been on sale though?

Can you tell us if The Last Guardian has been released as well?

"2 titles climb back in to the Top 10 this week thanks to a successful hardware promotion: Warner’s ‘Lego The Lord of the Rings’ climbs 11 places to No8 (+266%) and Mind Candy’s ‘Moshi Monsters: Katsuma Unleashed’ climbs 20 places to No9 (+350%)."

Moshi Monsters is only on DS and 3DS. Are people buying DS's again (we have 550 for all Europe last week in the front page...), or stores bundling DS games with 3DS's? Something doesn't seem right.

According to GAF, there was an Argos promotion (catalogue store) of a 2DS + Lego LOTR + Moshi Monsters for £99 which caused this massive rise.

They're also the store who were selling Vita + Killzone + Virtua Tennis for £140 which catapulted them back into the top 40.

Weren't some stores having 2DS bundles with DS games? Perhaps it's related.

Edit: Zu late...
