Canada: Bad: 1. High Tax (Property taxes, gas tax, etc..
2. Everything here is more expensive than the US

Good: 1. every one is polite.

Costa Rica

Good:

Beautiful landscapes (Volcanos, beaches, etc)
Generally, really nice people
Free medical service
No military

Bad:

High taxes for electronics
Corrupt government (what country doesn't have one?)
Still being one of the very few countries who still has an official religion stated in the constitution
Kinda related to the previous point, the country lacks progress, some people (including some in the government) are very very traditional

I honestly don't know, since I rarely go to a hotel when on vacation. I always go to a friend's or family house, and I only pay for the gas, no idea how much a plain ticket to Costa Rica is costing these days.
