Dual-Link DVI-D or regular DVI-D will be fine.
Go to a second hand shop or something, my local one has TONS of DVI cables of varying types for next to nothing.

You need a cable. Which one depends on the resolution of the monitor. The connectors in the middle row (with the missing pins) allow for max 1600*1200 resolution, the other (with all pins) go up to 2560*1600 resolution. You cannot mix a DVI-D cable/connector with a DVI-I cable/connector. I to I, D to D is the only possibility. D stands for Digital transmission, I for Digital+Analog (I can be abused for weird specialist stuff).
so i am guessing a dvi-i to vga adapter would work? my video cards connector has the cross, i am not sure but can a - work with a + connection? or must it all be filled.

Your graphics card will work with any DVI cable.
Your monitor will only work with DVI-D cables, best to use DVI-D IMHO. :)

well thank you everbody so much! i just picked up an adapter and the compter is running, bought windows 8 and installing it now. this has been quite the learning experince and learned a ton about hardware.
there is also a feeling of satisfaction after building it and doing it yourself. Just weeks ago i thought it be impossible for me to do this, but i guess not.
thank you for convincing me to build somthing, this way i got much better parts :)

Perfect time to join the PC gaming master race. - Right when a Steam sale starts to send you broke! :P
Also, congrats Bruxel, people think building a PC is hard so they generally don't bother looking into it, Decades worth of improvements have made things incredibly easy to the point of mostly being plug-and-play.
No longer do you have to set jumpers to set a CPU's Voltage, Multiplier and Frontside bus or to set the IDE speed (Or Master/Slave/Cable Select on the drives themselves) I can prattle on all day. :P
