You need a cable. Which one depends on the resolution of the monitor. The connectors in the middle row (with the missing pins) allow for max 1600*1200 resolution, the other (with all pins) go up to 2560*1600 resolution. You cannot mix a DVI-D cable/connector with a DVI-I cable/connector. I to I, D to D is the only possibility. D stands for Digital transmission, I for Digital+Analog (I can be abused for weird specialist stuff).
