Forums - Gaming - EA: Sony Executing Exceptionally Well, Microsoft Running into Challenges

It's been a highly competitive summer for hardware, and that can only be a good thing for EA.

by Josiah Renaudin on 22nd Oct, 2013

EA Labels president Frank Gibeau loves a good fight. The battle between Sony’s PlayStation 4 and Microsoft’s Xbox One that’s been taking place over the summer has only raised the stock of both the consoles themselves and the industry as a whole, and as one of the biggest players in the software side of the industry, EA is happy to see such excitement about a recently stagnant business. The competition is healthy, but really, Gibeau sees Sony as the company that’s had a stronger performance up to this point.

“I think the Sony team has executed exceptionally well – and they did not execute particularly well on PS3, whereas last time around Microsoft executed perfectly,” he toldEdge in a recent interview. “This time, Microsoft has run into some challenges, some leadership changes, but they’re a very resilient organization, and if you look at their counter punches on any setbacks, they’ve done a pretty good job of getting back on track.”

The many twists and turns that Microsoft has taken since the original announcement of the Xbox One has helped the company earn some good will with its audience, but it has been a bit of a struggle for a group that’s been on top throughout much of the current generation. However, this November will really come down to the games, and it looks as if both console manufactures have a strong launch lineup prepared for the millions of early adopters ready to buy some new hardware.

The PS4 lineup is anything but strong. It's so bad in fact I am strongly thinking about buying a PS3 cheap on Black Friday so I can enjoy some games.

I have no doubt though that it will blow MS out of the water after 2014.

please tell me this is your first console launch. WiiU, XBO and PS4 are possibly the 3 strongest launch line ups ever

nice words from the company with a special relationship with MS. xD

ps4's day 1 launch lineup is fine.  xbone's is a bit stronger on day one but overall sony is in so much better shape.

2014 ps4 is going to kill xbone on games.  laugh all you want but sony is tit-4-tat on AAA exclusives and AAA multiplats but then also has about 70 console exclusive indie games.  xbone will probably get half of those someday down the road but xbone's year 1 line up is going to be almost as sparce as wiiU's come spring time.

Don't want to split hairs, but he says executed, not executing. Past tense. Confirms as much by saying MS are now back on track.

I think he is clearly talking about the announcement period. Ms are in a decent groove now IMO. Decent marketing is hitting, good previews of all the exclusives that are shaping up VERY nicely.

it's always fun to see where allegiences lie.

Personally, I'm pretty much over the whole 'console war' thing.  I think all three consoles will do well this generation, as they are all appealing to different demographics.  Just because I See nothing in the Xbox One I personally care for doesn't mean it's a bad system, it's just clearly not for me.

Already got a WiiU with all the fixin's and a PS4 on pre-order.  that'll cover 90% of my gaming this generation, leaving only Steam for indies and exclusives, and maybe an Xbox One for the system's exclusives.

My Console Library:

PS5, Switch, XSX

PS4, PS3, PS2, PS1, WiiU, Wii, GCN, N64 SNES, XBO, 360

3DS, DS, GBA, Vita, PSP, Android

The article is clearly refferring to the summer just gone. Because Sony have lost steam of late. If anything Microsoft have gained good traction lately. Especially on the games front.

Wallked into GAME today. Now they set up a bit wierdly. They have ONLY Exclusive games on stands near the consoles themselves. Then multiplats all together. Today PS4 literally had 5 rows of Knack and 5 rows of Killzone. All Driveclub has been taken down.

On Xbox One side they have Ryse, Deaad Rising 3, Forza 5, Killer Instinct and Project Spark there on shelves.

Both PS4 and Xbox One multiplats are together. It look prety good for Xbox when your actually in the store to buy. It sticks out as more games.

Good job Microsoft.

Well, to be fair the headline could easily be

"EA: MS now back on track!"

..which still wouldn't take away from the statement of "I think the Sony team has executed exceptionally well...".   EA clearly took sides in this battle so it's nice to see them praising sony here.

Cant blame EA. Everyone wants to be with the side of bigger install base system. PS4 nailed in making a bigger install base for next gen.
