what does xbox support,.. because if it is more than 8 then i'm incredibly disappointed in this news.

4 i think... via skype

it's 8 on the 360.. and a minimum of 8 on the One

With the upgraded audio codec for chat, is 8 people still the maximum for Party Chat?

WHITTEN: We are looking at higher limits on party size. It will be at least 8 people chatting at a time. We may either increase the number of people that can be chatting at once or potentially allow more people in the party channel if only a smaller number is chatting. Stay tuned!

Is it part of PS+ or is it included for all customers?

Everyone, for PS4 the only thing being the PSN paywall is multiplayer on none F2P games and none subscription games, and the instant game collection obviously. Everything else is for everyone.

But what if you don't have 7 friends?

Hmm, pie.

Cross game chat is one of the dumbest thing ever.

Cool, just checking. So, so far, PS4 you just need to pay for playing online multiplayer (non-F2P/Subscription) and cloud storage, games rental.

All makes sense. VOIP service on PS4 would be a great as I have many games I play that my brother or friends do not, many single player ones. So chatting to them without having to be in the same game is a big plus.

8 sounds like too much, honestly. But then again, I'll hardly ever use the feature for more than 3... actually, i'll hardly ever use the feature.

4 ≈ One

Eight seems like overkill but I guess too many is better than too few.

While cross-game chat isn't a huge deal for me, I really appreciate the ability to coordinate with friends ahead of a game session. Although, as KylieDog wrote, people do abuse the feature. The last thing I want is my teammate in Halo 3 chatting with his buddy about last night's episode of The Walking Dead while I'm being run over by a Warthog.

Will be good for games like Final Fantasy 14 that dont have any kind of voice chat built in.

Cross game chat is a negative feature, especially for multiplayer games. People should be chatting with teammates, not someone in another game.

It brings back the blissfull silence to my occasional multiplayer gaming. I don't need to listen to them anymore complaining about my noobness :)
I guess the description "No Mic, boot" in GT5 Nascar lobbies will become "Cross chat and you're out"

I tried cross chat once with left for dead 2 as none of my team mates were talking. It was completely distracting hearing my friends go on about CoD while trying to figure out where the next objective was. I guess it's useful for people that can't watch tv without talking through it all the time.

nvm--
