Forums - Gaming - Do you think a lot of gaming journalists are actually poor gamers?

No.

I've heard the argument a lot recently, and often times the person making it is ignorant, arrogant, immature, or any combination of the three. Sometimes there is a legitimate criticism, but there are a lot of cases of old-fashioned elitism.

I can assure you that im none of those and my question is totally genuine, i brought it up in the wake of the Sonic lost world reviews. "i keep losing my rings and dying" is not a valid reason to downgrade a game.:)

All games mentioned was wiiu games, hum...

For me, is more about the dynamic of the market. Most of us see: 10 -> must play; 7-> pass; below 7 -> this is crap
But the guy review have to see something more like: 10-> everyone should play and have fun; 7-> for some will be really good, but not for all the majority. Then, remenber this facts: they play games that are aways the same for a job, when something is different, they will say: this game is not for everyone. The industry has grow to a point not everyone that like gaming will be into high leves of difficult.

For me, review scores are is the thing that we aredly should get rid off.

"Hardware design isn’t about making the most powerful thing you can.
Today most hardware design is left to other companies, but when you make hardware without taking into account the needs of the eventual software developers, you end up with bloated hardware full of pointless excess. From the outset one must consider design from both a hardware and software perspective."

I wasn't aware that was a common complaint. I only remember seeing it in the obviously exaggerated 1/5 review.

I believe in honesty, civility, generosity, practicality, and impartiality.

i personally have the feeling most reviewers are paid, sometimes they still give alibi honest reviews.

And i have the feeling they are on a mission to talk harsher about wii u games...

well, my guess is game journalists are a lot more likely to have patience with the game than the public at large. I'm sorry, but if a person being paid to play a game is having a hard time playing they should say so. Honestly, nothing is more annoying to me than a game that is frustratingly difficult. It isn't fun. Also, for something like wii u that has a touch screen, if drawing the correct shapes like in 101 doesn't result in the correct response on screen 100% of the time, then yes, that is bad game design.

You may like the game, but these reviewers aren't reviewing to your taste, they are reviewing to theirs.

I wouldnt say they are "poor" gamers.

More like gamers with either different opinions or paid for opinions :P.

Black ops 9.3 at ign

Wonderful 7.4

How exactly is that justified?

Than look at the amazon reviews, Wonderful 101 has only bad review and that is a troll review, blacks ops 2 nearly has 400 1 star reviews

I'm not going to lied, I don't know what comment to add to the reviewer, every reviewer have their own paste on how they play and review games.

But I will say, with games being super linear and more story base then gameplay base, us gamers sort of got use to games like Call of Duty, Uncharted, Killzone and etc. Besides the indie games, we don't get much games that's heavily base on gameplay and my playthrought of Wonderful 101 and ZombiU (demo), they were some of the hardest games I played in the long time and I felt like I was back in my SNES, PS2 and Gamecube days, playing super hard games, that took a lot of practice knowing the gameplay and skills how to use and sometimes abuse that gameplay to push throw.

I feel were use to most games that's heavily story base, holding our hands through the story with a limited amount of gameplay given, games like Wonderful 101 (noticing the issues in the game) have a hard time getting is image out there. Thought Rayman Legend was rated high so I don't know.
