Forums - Gaming - Why are people so obsessed with console hardware?

For PC hardware, I can understand specifically because PC game graphics are adjustable depending on your hardware capabilities. But console games don't have that feature. Therefore, developers will be making games that are optimized for a specified set of hardware parameters.

Thus, in the case of the PS4 and the Xbone, where the differences are so small (if any), what's the point of arguing which one is better? The difference isn't like Geforce 1st gen and 4th gen. It's the same hardware generation, with relatively the same specs, so developers will be optimizing their games in relatively the same fashion. Will you really care and notice if a version of a game runs at 60fps, while the other one runs at 59fps? It's ludicrous.

I don't understand why people are arguing about this all the time. Instead, people should argue about the games, on which console will get the better exclusives or the better first party support or the better online features.

The difference will be much greater than 1 fps, that's why people keep arguing.

because its fun and theres opposition. why are you obsessed with whatever you are with

We have emotional connections with the companies and devices. People don't want to come to the belief that the product they bought was the wrong choice and will go above and beyond to defend their choice of console over the others. Some people, like those who have been with Nintendo and Sony since their inception will attach the positive emotions they enjoyed as a child playing those devices as sacred and anything which will obstruct that belief is in itself considered anti THEM.

I will always buy my children and myself Nintendo products because I grew up wanting a Nintendo, obsessed reading about project reality and bought a N64 with my own money as the first console that I owed with my own cash. I enjoyed that console so much that whenever my friends said the Playstation was better there would erupt a 58MT Butt Hurt argument from those of us who enjoyed Zelda and WCW world Tour, Golden Eye and those who enjoyed Crash and that other crap on Sony.

Wonderful, personal, hateful arguments.

The point is, the consoles aren't even out yet and you don't know that. For all you know, there could be no difference at all. And either way, developers are focusing on both consoles so it's pointless to speculate.

People need a reason to justify their purchase. Right now PS4 lacks in software so they have to build up the hardware. If and when it has the software that will become their bragging right.

Reassurance.

I'm saying the difference is there. It's something that every digital foundry comparison will show.

Will the average Joe notice the difference at launch? That's what's causing the arguments. PS fans think/want it to be yes while xbox fans think/want it to be no.

Also as far as knowing things I understand your point. Most people don't know what they're talking about.

the same reason sports fans argue. Tribalism.

Just a nerd penis envy thing..
