There's also no need to worry about nothing for the Wii U being on there right now. WWHD didn't even show up on the charts until four weeks before launch, so I expect 3D World might not show up on the preorder charts for another two or three weeks. Nintendo games typically have more modest launches compared to big AAA action series (e.g., COD, Halo, GTA) anyway, and thus don't get preordered in droves like those games do. For example, here's how some big-name Wii games did in their first week in the U.S., rounded off to the nearest thousand:
Mario Kart Wii: 1,032k New Super Mario Bros. Wii: 838k Super Smash Bros. Brawl: 1,356k Super Mario Galaxy: 527k Super Mario Galaxy 2: 705k Skyward Sword: 604k
Now here's how some of the biggest 360 & PS3 games sold in their first week in the U.S.:
Halo 3: 2,420k Halo Reach: 3,698k Black Ops II: 3,577k (360) + 2,039k (PS3) = 5,616k (total) GTAIV: 1,972k (360) + 1,036k (PS3) = 3,008k (total) GTAV: 5,269k + 3,176 (PS3) = 8445k (total)
In many cases, some 360 & PS3 games have sold upwards to a quarter or even a third of their lifetime sales in just their first week. Meanwhile, Nintendo games might sell at best 10% of their lifetime sales in their first week. The most popular 360 & PS3 games tend to burn brighter and faster, while the most popular Nintendo games tend to have stronger legs for the long haul. For example, Halo 3 and Mario Galaxy both had similar lifetime sales and came out at around the same time, but had vastly different sales figures the week of their launches. They all sell well, but pace themselves differently. I suspect Super Mario 3D World will have a modest launch as well, selling about 300-400k in the U.S. in its first week, but it could go on to sell 8-10 million lifetime.
