Valve Confirms Official AMD-Powered Steam Machines For 2014

In a statement to Forbes, a Valve representative has confirmed that AMD graphics hardware will be included in commercially available Steam Machines next year. The more interesting story, however, is why Valve needed to confirm this in the first place.

Expected, but welcomed anyway.

The comment on the article askin themselves why AMD passed the ball onto Valve is quite simple. It's Valve who revealed the prototypes and didn't mention AMD, it's they job to rectify that mistake or put to rest any doubts that may exist. If AMD did it, there would still be people saying that it's not true.

It's a bit surprising the part about Intel IGPs. Aren't Intel drivers a bit... crappy? At least that's what I've been told.

My guess is that they can't ignore it now on Linux since well, Steam OS.

I really did not think there was any doubt. A steam machine is a PC with a linux OS. Any vendor could put together any type of hardware combination to support such a setup.

I wonder how seriously Intel will take this situation.

I'm repeating myself, but whenever Intel launches a new CPU with IGP I read the same comments: "their drivers suck", "their support is almost non-existant", etc. Maybe they are always the same people (most likely), but I don't know how true or false that is, mostly because as they are part of a CPU they are tested at launch and never again, unlike graphic cards.

We'll see.
