Forums - Nintendo - Capcom Really considering a RE 5 Wii?

Ehm may I ask what that has to do with being spoiled? You mean being spoiled with games like Mario Galaxy and Zack & Wiki, which are in 480p and looking mighty good Spoiled with PS3? Not really. I more like to call it "spoiled money".

And I can see people are only busy on this website with bashing on each other than having a normal conversation *sigh*. The usual (sick) stuff.

Twice too

Anyways, have you played Okami on PS2? I haven't, thus this Wii version is a must for me ( if it comes before June here in Europe, cause I'll go to the army for a whole year

RE5 should be on PS3 and XBOX period. Please Capcom, no dumbed down Wii version.

What is wrong with the Wii getting a graphically downgraded version with extra content while the Xbox and PS3 get their own? Your reasoning is just spiteful.

You just don't want a graphically inferior version to sell better than two graphically superior versions and set a trend of change in the industry.

Surely people should be after RE:6, not some strange port of RE:5?

For 360/PS3 owners, I'd badly hope capcom would be using their additional processing power to do somthing interesting with the game mechanics that can't be repeated on wii, not just a prettier version of RE:4.

To get RE5 on the wii, they would literally have to change every character's polygon count, decrease resolution to 480P, lower the amount of textures...a lot of work. The biggest issue with porting RE5 to wii (and there are many issues) is RAM. With all pistons firing Wii has 88 meg (24 video, 64 system). Thats not enough to port a first gen Xbox 360 game let alone a 3rd gen game. It would pause for load time every 8 seconds...

Think about that: When you reduce the polygons and resolution you need fewer RAM, so it would fit into the 88MB Wii-Ram. Every game made on the xbox could be made on the Wii as well, with reduced graphics quality but of course but better controls. No one who played RE4 on the Wii would get back to the old gamepad for the next episode.

And by the way. Decreasing resolution and texture-size is very easy. :)

RE5 would only need resolution and textures downgraded and remanaged mob scenes  to compensate for lack of A.I on the Wii.

It would be easy to do, just a tad time consuming to give it its own polish. While the graphical gap between the PS3/360 and the Wii is greater than the gap between the GC and PS2, the difference in appearance isn't necessaraly as great. The Ps2 had half the texturing capability of the Dreamcast,  while the GC, Xbox, Wii, PS3 and 360 are all on a plateau the PS2 couldn't reach.

With how they have been selling, it is possible that Resident Evil: The Umbrella Chronicles could outsell one version of Resident Evil 5 and Resident Evil 4: Wii Edition could outsell both versions of Resident Evil 5. Now, this doesn't mean that Capcom will port Resident Evil 5 but I'm certain they have taken notice of the popularity of these games and will have something for Wii owners in the future.

You really think RE4: Wii Edition could outsellf both versions of RE5?  LOL :)

You think it couldn't with those legs? LOL :)

It will at least outsell one. The REs on Ps2 didn't sell well compared to base. I guess X360 + Ps3 "RE base" will be about equal too Ps2 one.

Re4 Wii is a remake, so it cost them very little money. I'd therefore say that in profit for Capcom, it is going to be atleast twice of the best selling Re5.

Re4 does have great legs, I mean, compare it to other RE 4s (the only ones in database) http://www.vgchartz.com/swlaunch.php?reg1=All&game1=Resident+Evil+4%3A+Wii+Edition+-+Wii&reg2=All&game2=Resident+Evil+4+-+PS2&reg3=All&game3=Resident+Evil+4+-+GC&weeks=80

Or perhaps more visibly: http://www.vgchartz.com/swlaunch.php?reg1=All&game1=Resident+Evil+4%3A+Wii+Edition+-+Wii&reg2=All&game2=Resident+Evil+4+-+PS2&reg3=All&game3=Resident+Evil+4+-+GC&weeks=80&weekly=1

The last drop isn't a drop, it's just that it is only European data in.

Umbrella chronicles is tracking above Re4 Ps2 and GC, which is very impressive considering it's the second RE on the console. It is also on-track and much cheaper to make. This one is not likely to sell as much as RE4 Wii, as it seems to have a slight drop in the end here.

Compare RE4 and UC to Dead Rising for X360 - a game Capcom surely spent more on than the other 2 combined. It is likely to sell less than half of Re4, maybe a third, and about half of RE:UC. What does this tell Capcom? Go Wii. While I doubt we will see RE5 for Wii, as it was in development BEFORE Wii became a success, I believe that almost ALL further REs and possibly Capcom titles, will go Wii.

But then again, Capcom made 5 games for GCN, and 40 for PS2, of the GCN 4 became Millionares, while 13 of the Ps2s became that, and the rest of the ones on Ps2 sold 500k or less. One should therefore think that Capcom would change to GCN, but they didn't.

They have also understood that porting great games to Wii = Superb money. Okami sold less than 500k on Ps2, barely going even. Now they're porting it to Wii, and adding Wii controls, so I guess it will outsell the Ps2 version easily.

If SF 4 flops, this might be the test to check if the series can go Wii.

Wii is getting the MH series rom capcom too. I'd say Capcom is smart enough to be one of the first to give Nintendo some competition for titles on Wii.

This is true. I was playing my 421st version of street fighter 2 this afternoon. But keep in mind that Capcom is notorious for rehashing old games on new superior hardware but not the other way around

Like when they ported the Gamecube version to the PS2!

Personally id love to see a RE5 Wii,,, but i'll be getting it for 360

Heck id love to see RE4 for 360!

Except the PS2 was marginally less powerful than the Cube, as both were of the same gen in terms of hardware. The adjustments should have been about the same as porting RE2 from PS1 to the N64. But trying to port RE5 to the Wii would be akin to porting RE4 to the PS1. It's not gonna happen, and if it does, it'll happen ugly.

The difference between the PS1 and GC is bigger than Wii to Xbox/PS3. I would say it's like porting RE4 to a less powerful Dreamcast...not a PS1.
