sounds like a big excuse just becuase he is releasing something that is in the limit of what can be called a "game". there is no single person or community's preconception, there is an absolute common sense of what a game is.

And what would that be exactly?
You are proving his point.

there is no point, unless you think someone can release a music and say it's a game, for example. games have a clear definition: needs a player, has rules, has an objective. and by the way, a game doesn't need self afirmation arguments for people to understand it's a game. while people may enjoy, it's hard to define beyond two souls as a game since it's basically a movie where you press buttons now and then so you can watch the rest. that makes his statement a forceful try to convince people bts is a game.

You're missing dolphins point! Who says those are the definition for a game? Give it a moment and think about it.

For example; you and me are both men. Does that mean we should sleep with women, just because it's the definition in most people's eyes? You being a gay man should have given you more perspective when it comes to thingss like this.

Steve Jobs, and i didn't even like him, said once and i quote;

He just want to bright emotional aspect in Video games which is a good thing and its kind of risk only Sony will do because they want to bring innovation to games for better instead of just trying to use same formula and story again and again for Money. I'm sure that Beyond will sell good amounts like 1-2 Million atleast and with PS4 version if might sell another million. So, i will say this is a first try by QD for this kind of gameplay and also this introuduced an interesting discussion among gamers worldwide about what a Game is and how we are living with same kind of Gampley for long time. Finally, what i really want to say is that I love the work QD and their dare to bring something different into Gaming and being supported by Sony with a risk. This game might not be for everyone but this is for some people like me because we are bored of the more shooting every year.

GAMING is not about spending hours to pass/waste our time just for fun,

its a Feeling/Experience about a VIRTUAL WORLD we can never be in real, and realizing some of our dreams (also creating new ones).

So, Feel Emotions, Experience Adventure/Action, Challenge Game, Solve puzzles and Have fun.

PlayStation is about all-round "New experiences" using new IP's to provide great diversity for everyone.

Xbox is always about Online and Shooting.

Nintendo is always about Fun games and milking IP's.

A game requires a game world in which you have a certain level of interaction and a set of rules deciding how you can interact with the world. That's about how I would define a game.

An objective isn't really necessary for a game. Minecraft didn't have an objective before they added the dragon boss (and that's not really an objective either because it's not something you have to do) but it's still a game.

OT:

Personally I don't see the problem in defining what a game is, I just think it's a pointless thing to do because that definition would only cause trouble for those whining about what a game should be and what elements a game should or shouldn't include. It really wouldn't hinder or limit a game creator in any way. If anything a definition would only be helpful for Cage as he could use it and say that yes, games like Heavy Rain and Beyond and whatever his next project is are indeed games and there's nothing that the naysayers can do about it.

you don't know what definition is, do you? definition of man: human being of the male gender/ carrying the x and y sexual cromossomes. sleeping with women is merely what most people THINK men SHOULD do. see? your "example" is just wrong.

a game, just like everything, has an absolute definition, unaffected by personal opinion. Anyone can say if something is a game if it matches the definition of one.

While I don't mind watching his games I swear to god I will never play them unless he makes drastic changes in how they play. I wanted to stop playing Heavy Rain the minute I went to control a character. It felt AWFUL. I couldn't imagine playing the whole game through. Same goes for Farenheit/Indigo Prophecy. Fun to watch and very interesting. Not great to play. If you want game players to enjoy your game at least get walking around the environment down before complaining.

To be on topic we all know that the customer should get to make that definition so if HR is anything to go by some people obviously agree with him and put their money where his mouth is.
