Based on Vgchartz members responds:

9) I have/had GC and bought Wii. 10
10) I have/had GC and going to buy Wii. 0
like all nintendo fans already bought... =)
1) I have/had PS2 and bought Wii. 14
15% of all responders, i wouldn`t call that a big number. But still not bad. =]
12) Didn't own PS2 and GC, but bought Wii 9
some new members, like 10%.
2) I have/had PS2+GC and bought Wii. 44
over 50%.
so of 21,5 mln. GC owners, there were like 10-15 mln. which(might) also bought ps2.

2009.04.30 - PS3 will OUTSELL x360 atleast by the middle of 2010. Japan+Europe > NA.


Gran Turismo 3 - 1,06 mln. in 3 weeks with around 4 mln. PS2 on the launch.
Gran Turismo 4 - 1,16 mln. with 18 mln. PS2 on the launch.

Final Fantasy X - around 2 mln. with 5 mln. PS2 on the launch.
Final Fantasy X-2 - 2.4 mln. with 12 mln. PS2 on the launch.

 

1.8 mln. PS3 today(2008.01.17) in Japan. Now(2009.04.30) 3.16 mln. PS3 were sold in Japan.
PS3 will reach 4 mln. in Japan by the end of 2009 with average weekly sales 25k.

PS3 may reach 5 mln. in Japan by the end of 2009 with average weekly sales 50k.
PS2 2001 vs PS3 2008 sales numbers =) + New games released in Japan by 2009 that passed 100k so far

Being that this is a videogame related website this sample is far from random, and on top of that the sample size is too small to accurately make these kinds of statements.

Crazzyman once again desperately trying to make sense of where the cards lie... sigh... And now you're reduced to trying to form a study from anecdotal evidence to which I'm sure you'll find a way to spin it the conclusions you want to believe.

Not exactly, Wii was lucky to make some effect on ps2 users, like 15%(maybe 15 mln.) + new users(not ps2+gc owners) 10%(2-3 mln.), also casual non-gamers(there should be atleast 10-20 mln. in LTD sales) so it will have some steam, but probably not for long. =)

Anyway, i made conclusions for myself, so no need to flood. ;)

first of all, where do you get "2-3 million" from 10%?

New users would be from a pool of what? 1 billion? 300 million? 10% of X is not necessarily 2-3 million.

Second of all, Anyone on VGchartz is automatically a hardcore gamer. There is 0 representation of the casual market.

 

Here's my conclusion:

 

Assuming:

100 Million PS2 + 20 Million GCN + 25 Million Xbox = ~ 120 million gamers in the market  (assuming some overlap)

 

GCN will hold a 40% marketshare after all is said and done.

Xbox360 and PS3 will share the remaining 60%.

 So assuming 100 million gamers,

50 million will have Wii

30 million will have Xbox360

30 million will have PS3 

(assuming some overlap) 

 You can squabble over marketsize all you want (150 gamers = 75 million wii's and blah blah) but at least my conclusion is based on actual numbers.

 

Though personally I consider it a miracle if PS3 reaches 30 million, but that's just me
