Well said.  I find myself thinking the same.

More than anything, I think a lot of 90+ games these days try to do a bit of everything; whereas mixed games just focus on one or two mechanics, and I prefer that a lot more.

Sadly, my own example focused on only one gameplay aspect, and in it, while it was fun, IMO it still kinda failed. Since it was too linear, and Drake killed at least 2000 people in those two games >.< genociding treasure hunter.

But I can see your point. Indeed, if there is a redeeming element in a mixed game, it can pull it quite far. In Neptunia, it's gameplay and characters. Music in mk2 is also awesome.
