On first party alone, definitely not. But if Nintendo actually put some effort into attracting more indie developers to make exclusive games to fill the gaps, that would make me as a Wii U owner very happy.

The Wii U will "survive" for as long as Nintendo wants it to. If Nintendo puts the money into it, the system will still be there.
If we're talking about whether the Wii U can succeed...that's a different question.
In terms of market position...no. Nintendo makes good games, but they aren't the only ones, and with third parties the other systems will have a far greater weight of releases. In the end, people will go where the games are.
In terms of profit...absolutely. It would require them to accept some harsh realities for the system, but if their goal was simply to not lose money, they could do it quite easily.
I believe in honesty, civility, generosity, practicality, and impartiality.
I may survive but its hardware sales wont look to flash, And that'll mean having to probably own 2 consoles due to missing out on all the third party gems.

They will havee some second party support and the occassional big 3rd party game/multiplate port, but mostly will run on first party support. |
Can you not read or something? The op poses the question "Can Wiiu survive on just first party?" nothing else.

Of all Gamecube games rated 90+
16 third party
10 first party

Nintendo would have to seriously step up their game, but yes it's possible.
I hope Nintendo's learned its lesson by now that giving space for third party to work won't entice third parties to an extent to keep the system alive. Forget the rest and churn 'em out.
Since they don't had losses in 6th gen because of GBA & DS I'm not sure. But probably not.
The real question is: could wii u and mainly Nintendo survive without 3ds?
^ They'd be making more games, and have less titles out in the same spirit^
Ala NSMB2-NSMBU, they'd probably also have a more western focus due to the fact Japan isnt overtly enthusiastic about consoles.'
Thing is game companies make more homeland if their currency is stronger
So a weaker yen helps their revenue outside Japan flourish

Says the guy who plays MW3.

I guess the key word here is "Survive" then, because that is what the Gamecube did at best...
