Wow, Zelda is cute.
I think the situation for Nintendo is summed up nicely if you read between the lines: a former Nintendo fan doesn't known anything about the Wii U, which has been out for a year. I mean, damn, Bingo was his name-o.
Why is Nintendo, which has buckets of cash, not trying to wow the world anymore? Are they content to be a niche system if the hardware doesn't attract a huge audience on its own? Do they believe that everyone will come if they just build a box? Why do they only have a fraction of the ads that I've seen for Microsoft and Sony?
Really, honestly, where is the next game that will blow us away the way Zelda did? That's what Nintendo needs, not just for moving units right now, sports mixes and kart mixes will do that, but for the growth of the brand. That's what would get my interest. What is the next blockbuster IP that grabs our imaginations? Without that, barring another lottery hit like the Wii, Nintendo will be on a declining curve.
