Square Enix has today officially taken the wraps off of Nosgoth, a new “bloodthirsty, free-to-play, competitive online multiplayer title set in the Legacy of Kain universe.”

Currently in development at Psyonix in collaboration with Square Enix, Nosgoth is a team-based Human VS Vampire multiplayer game for Steam and PC. What makes Nosgoth different, says Psyonix, is the third-person ranged versus melee combat.

According to the developer, humans in the game will use “an arsenal of devastating ranged weaponry and specialised equipment,” but the Vampires will instead attack using “visceral close-up melee attacks augmented by their inhuman abilities.”

Players will need to use strategy, communication and teamwork in order to succeed. Unlockable items, perks and abilities are also promised for both sides of the skirmish. Here’s the debut trailer for Nosgoth:

I don't think i'll ever understand what some people have against F2P! Can anyone explain this?

I loved Legacy of Kain... so I'm waiting a proper sequel instead competitive online multiplayer title.

I really don't understand why people refuse to play or even look at a game that is FREE TO PLAY. I mean, what are you loosing from simply trying it out? Don't like it, you didn't pay for it, you lost nothing. Granted, I've never been a big fan of f2p games myself, but that's more because they don't have much lasting appeal for me and I get pretty board with them. But I at least try them out before I decide I don't like them.

Easy. F2P is almost always synonymous with micro-transaction galore and the pay to win formula.

I've played some good free-to-play games (Tribes: Ascend and Planetside 2 are awesome), so my problem with the game isn't that. The multiplayer-only bit is what disappoints me.
