Most of my 360 issues are RRoD related. The console would freeze regardless of what I was playing, and often froze in the dashboard. I used to play off both a USB/HDD, and it didn't matter if I only had 1 plugged in at the time, it still froze.

One of the 360 consoles MS replaced mine with wouldn't play disks which I had DLC for. It also wouldn't play online for half my games at random. Was a weird issue, had to spend 2 hours on the phone with MS and Bell, just to get MS to admit fault.

I used the same HDD on all 3 of my consoles, and now I have a larger HDD because my friend upgraded to the non-compatible Slim (Another reason to dislike MS). If this new console starts to freeze often I'll try to play off USB like you said. Actually, because I play at my friends quite often, my account is always on my memory card, so I don't really use my HDD all that much, unless I'm playing an installed game.

If the HDD is plugged in, it can cause the system to freeze.  When a HDD is present, the console will still use the HDD to cache graphical content regardless of where the game is played.  If the problem isn't exhibitted with the HDD you get from your friend, try putting your previous HDD back in and see if it fails once again.  If so, then pretty much guaranteed that you have a bad HDD.

Which reminds me, have you gone through the process of clearing the HDD cache?  I'm guessing you have as that is often standard practise in the basic support steps.

Right now, my 360 is running fine, but before, even when my HDD was unplugged, and I played off a USB it still froze. For me, it wasn;t an HDD problem, my motherboard was warped.

One of my friends, who know how to mod a 360, explained the issue to me. Apparently the original model 360's run a little hotter then they are suppose too, which makes the motherboard sag. MS being cheapo's only clip the motherboard on two sides, but if you clip all 4 sides, the 360 is pretty much guarenteed not to RRoD. Instead of doing a facotry recall, or spending $0.50 on new consoles (addressing the issue), MS just pretended like nothing was broken. They extended the warrenty to 3 years so they could artificially reduce the fail rate by claiming a lot of broken consoles aren't broken.

That to me is how I see the situation.

My put two extra clips in his original 360, and it's been perfect since Halo 3 (got the Halo 3 bundle). He showed my a warped mothboard and his, and yea....2 extra clips fixes everything.

Well its going to be a while before I'm done with Forza 4 still working on the Bucket List achievements and when I'm done with that I will probably buy the Porsche expansion pack.  Still kinda busy with Horizon also since I'm trying to get all the metals for the cars that I have and I will buy the seson pass when its 50% off if that never happens I will probably buy the first car pack so I can get all the 1000 Club achievements and the February car pack because I want the 1973 Mazda RX-3 (loved that car in Sega GT 2002) and the 1970 Datsun 510.  Plus even when I'm done with both the games I will play them both at least one time a month as long as they give out free unicorn cars through the Forza Rewards program.

Porsche expansion pack takes a couple hours to get all 250/250

LOL about the medals for Horizon, it's because of achievements like these, I don't care for MS brand game achievements anymore. Medals are literally designed so that you have to get the DLC in order to get them. You can't get most of them without DLC, and to me that's just givng MS money for nothing. You don't get any added fun, unless it's a specific car you want like the RX-3, but the DLC is designed so you get multiple car packs, which have lots of meh cars you don't want. Plus car DLC is overpriced in this game, it's almost $1 per car, I feel that's a rip off, so I'm standing against MS by not downloading them.

I have the same mentality for Halo and Gears of War now. If Halo 4 and Judgement were as fun as Reach and Gears 3, I would buy DLC, no problem, but with the new games I have no motivation to play online. Plus I hate grinding for that last 20 points, especially because there is no shared "complete games" page which others can view, and you don't get a platinum trophy or anything.

Anyway this is getting off topic, but this is why I'm starting to like Sony a lot more now. You get a Platinum for getting all the original trophy's, you don't need DLC for a platinum (you do for 100% completion though), and that's nice. Motivates me to max games with DLC I have no interest in.

It might only take a couple of hours to get all the achievements but I'm also planning to reach level 50 with Porsche that should take over 30 hours.  You can actually get most of the achievements in the 1000 Club DLC as long as you download all the free cars plus I'm sure that the 2009 Ford Fiesta Zetec S will be a free unicorn car in the rewards program soon, that will knock out another achievement without buying anything.

Ok im not getting ps4 in concerns over future hacks, getting x1 aka the awesome 1st

I'm making this thread just to express my frustration with Microsoft. This is my opinion, and it may be biased, but since I literally own every console, I feel it's legitimate.

Console is broken (8x), I bought a separate extended warrenty from Best Buy, can't they just replace my broken console instead of you?

It looks like Microsoft has learned from the 360's hardware issues since they're going out of their way to ensure the Xbox One has a very large amount of cooling (size of console, power brick, employee comments, etc).

Won't repair MS brand parts. I bought a 360 gaming wheel for Forza 2 and PGR3 back when the 360 released. I enjoyed it for 2 years, but in 2009 they discontinued it because of a push towards Kinect. That's fine, but the problem was my dog chewed the power cable, the wheel doesn't recognize 3rd party power supplies (even if you match the voltage and amps), MS pulled all new wheels off the shelf, and they don't stock resupply parts.

A lot of companies don't supply parts for discontinued products and I think it's unreasonable to blame them for something your dog did to be honest.

XBLG can't redeem code. Lots of problems, I've had to change my account just to register a short term XBLG code, and couldn't play Windows games on my windows phone for months because of it. I've had a lot of problems here, I just don't want to start.

I'm guessing this is because you forgot a password for the email you used to register your original account (or something like that).  If that's the case you shouldn't be blaming them for something that is your fault.

Windows Phone I can't use my paypal account, which is on my XBL account, and I've been on the phone for a solid hour and a half now now. All for Crimson Dragon for $0.99.....

Your complaint should be with PayPal since it's their app that is causing the issue.  It should also be a reason why you would want a Xbox One as the certification process for apps on Xbox consoles is notoriously stringent.

That's my rant.....while you're here, what next gen consoles are you buying? For me:

So in summary any issues you had with Xbox 360 look extremely likely to be solved with Xbox One (except for your dog chewing on electronics which is on you).

PSV - Down the road, I bought a PSP just last year, still have 20 games for it. Plus I softmodded it to play GBA/PS1 games, so I'm playing all the GBA/PS1 games which I own (I'm doing this legit), and well I have a lot of PS1 games. So I'm in no rush for a PSV, but I will get one, one day.

I'm returning a PSV that I bought a week ago because of dark streaks on the screen whenever the screen is completely black.  In fact issues with Vita OLED screens appears to be common based on Internet postings I've read so I'm not going to bother getting a replacement.  That's not going to stop me from buying other Sony products in the future though as I judge each product on its own merits (I've owned a PSP for years and love it for example).

One has bigger vents, but apparently 40% of 360 fails weren't RRoD, and One is having a lot of manufacturing issues which weren't present when 360 was produced (like Processors unbinding). I'm not convinced the One will be that much more reliable, it's still an X-Box brand product, made in the same factory, with the same standards of quality.

You think it's unreasonable for MS not to supply replacement parts for an accessory which was discontinued for 2 months? Most companies provide supplies for accessories for at least a year, often 5 or more years, and they rarely pull of products off shelves. If they plan on discontinuing products prematurely, they shouldn't design accessories not to accept 3rd party power supplies. I don't think I'm being unreasonable since this was also a $150 wheel, which was only 2 years old. I expect some quality servicing.

X-Box wouldn't redeem code - Nope, Can't redeem a code for 31 days if you've taken more then 5 attemps logging in at once. I have a few different passwords, and I don't use this account much. A 31 day ban to add XBLG service? Makes no sense, It was a pre-paid card....

I should be angry at PayPal because Windows doesn't allow me to use Paypal on Windows phone apps? Sure you can argue it's paypals fault for not making an interface compatible on windows phones, but I've used paypal on other apps on the phone. Only XBL has issues, so XBL is to blame. Also if Microsoft wanted us to use Paypal, all they would have to do is allow us to buy the game on the PC like we can with XB 360 Arcade games. Add in an hour and a half and they hang up on me, and I see 3 faults for Microsoft here.

MS Customer service won't suddenly go from 1-2 hour calls to 10-15 minute calls with XB One. XBLG won't have any reasonably priced 3 month term options (3 months PSN is $13, half the price of XBLG), Bigger vents won't fix half the repair issues 360 faced, or the new manufactering issues, and won't solve MS's ignorance ($0.50 repair to fix all original model 360's, but MS wouldn't even admit they were breaking). MS still won't send me a power supply for my wheel, and never will service accessories they can't profit off, MS controllers and accessories will still have high fail rates (How is it that I've had more 360 controllers break in 5 years then Nintendo controllers over 20 years?), and MS still cares very little for their gamers. Nothing will change.

----

I'll still get a One, just way way later. Sony and Nintendo have yet to let me down, if they let me down as hard as MS did and I hear MS has improved, I might switch back, but like I said CS and reliability go a long way with me, and until I see MS reliability improve, I can't invest in them.

It's the same as American cars, until they finally catch up with Japanese and German Reliability (according to Lemon-Aid, Comsuber Reports, Blue Book, and my own personal experience they are far far behind) I won't buy one.

A lot of customer service firms are based in India and Philippines. I know from first hand experience that cellphone companies use the Philippines. I've talked to AT&T reps in Philippines. My cousin is a rep for Verizon. People need jobs and I am glad that they do outsource to third world countries. It is so hard to get a decent paying job and make a living. Try living in a third world country and see if people complain about petty issues like this. People are just trying to live. This type of first world whining about how you are being treated over a videogame system pisses me off. A lot of people treat customer service reps like shit, like they are entitled to everything. Show some humanity people. There are more important issues in the world than your videogames. You're pretty much yelling at a poor person who needs to feed their families. Help them understand you, it's not their native language. They didn't break your game system.

I'm never rude to people on customer service, for exactly the reasons you said. It's a stressful job, these people are trying to help you, and they are paid minimum wage.

Well Actually once I was rude to the Victoria Secret CS because it was a woman from Kentucky, with the Kentucky accent, and I wasn't sure if she was making fun of me for being Canadian, or being completely oblivious and dumb. She didn't know where Toronto was (4th biggest city in North America), thought that I lived on a rural street which doesn't have a mailman, and insulted Canada as a whole for having "confusing" Postal codes instead of Zip codes.....

Had 360 that kind of failed 4 years after launch. The video would change from color to b/w and back again intermittently. I bought an new 360 and have never looked back. Still have the other 360 and it still works, but the color changing drove me nuts. I guess I don't particularly blame M$ for it, it was 3 years out of warranty. I think the problem is that most of us are spoiled by Nintendo's earlier systems that never really broke. You have to look at the systems a little different now, they have lots of moving parts and depend on a lot of different outside things to work proeperly. Not many of the electronics that are as complicated and get used that much last that long. I do agree, 8X in a couple of years is really bad!

The only moving parts in consoles are hard-drives and CD drives. Sony has always used CD drives, and Nintendo Gamecube/Wii are also CD drive based, yet we don't hear about issues from them. I've never heard of a 360/PS3 hard drive issue

We weren't spoiled by Nintendo, MS is just not meeting the standard set by Nintendo. In this thread, many argue that MS is okay, but no one dares say they are as good as Nintendo. IMO, I expect Nintendo-like service, and MS just doesn't measure up. Sony is pretty close.

Apparently 40% where you getting this from? This is starting to sound very strange. Your rant comes off like you are trying to get ppl to not buy an Xbox. You said PS offered to fix your console then left out that they were going to charge you. Sony is nowhere near Nintendo as far as reliability of consoles. I know a bunch of ppl with xbox's but nothing remotely close to the stuff you are complaining about(outside of RROD)

Welp that sucks, my customer service experience has been pretty ideal with them, both in terms of getting discount on Live by scumbag lying that I found a better offer before and resolving the credit card storage issues and payments. I've only had two 360s, elite and my MW3 bundle one, both worked fine, never RROD'd nor any technical problems with them.

Am just not getting the One due to its inflated price tag here in UK, and that I haven't really played consoles in a while, I have severe trouble finishing games lately, even though I've used to push myself to finish every 360 game I've brought before, but this time around I have FC3, AC3, Halo 4, Dishonoured, GTA V, all brought on release and gathering dust ;_;. I may have outgrown console gaming :s, just play LOL with friends now, nothing else tbh, just need to finish GTA V!

Disconnect and self destruct, one bullet a time.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Xbox_360_technical_problems#Response_to_rate_of_failure - Paragraph 2.

You just tried to convince me that all of my issues with Microsoft are my own fault....so, if anyone is trying to convince anyone, it's you. This is my rant, I just want people to know the shit I had to put up with owning a 360. If it turns people off Microsoft, then good. A company that treats their consumer like deserves bad publicity.

Playstation isn't perfect, but we can agree on a hardware, and customer service part Nintendo is. Yes Sony said they were going to charge me for repairing my PS1 and PS3, $90 for each. My PS1 broke in 2001, when PS2 released, which was BC, so I saved that $90 and put it down on a PS2. My PS3 broke pretty early, but I bought a 1st gen 20GB model from a friend for $150, so it would have been cheap overall too. I can only imagine how much of a headache MS would have given me if I owned a 1st gen 360.

Replaced my PS3 recently for $140 (used again), so I spend $290 total on my 2x PS3's, where I bought my 9x' 360 for $550 with the recharge cables and an $80 extended warrenty.........which MS almost sqrewed me out of. When my console RRoD's Best Buy had an order to send all RRoD's to Microsoft, and of the 8 or 9 times I sent it, MS only admitted to it being broken twice. At the end of my warrenty, my 360 was broken, but MS just full out won't admit it to get out of a third replacement (Basically told me to f off and buy another 360), but I was very lucky to have a nice sales man at Best Buy help me out.

---

Anyway agree or disagree, these are my rants, I wrote the entire thing up while on hold with customer service for MS, only to have them hang up on me.

These are ligitimate problems I encountered owning a 360 console for 6 years, and you can take it or leave it. However now you can't truthfully say you have never heard of problems like this anymore.

Yea I have 3 or 4 of the 1000 Club DLC achievements, I can get 1 more if I buy every car in the game. However to get the Shelby, Lambo, Nissan, BMW, and 1,000,000 car ones, you need to get 2 DLC's (Forget which 2). Not a big deal, but still money wasted IMO, I'm not going to pay for achievements (I would buy the new Lotus Exige 260 Cup with the Evora engine though). Anyway Forza is great, when I one day do get a One console, I'll buy Forza 5, 6, 7, and maybe 8 if it's for One. Thank goodness MS turned around on that used game policy.

You know Halo 3 is still a $35 game on XBL? Yet MS claims their services match Steam which has Fallout NV with all DLC sell for $5 during a summer sale.....

Not everyone experiences RRoD, if they did the fail rate would be a lot higher then 50%...

I feel the same about next gen, like I said in my OP I have about 60 PS3/360/Wii games still to beat, plus GTAV, GT6, Beyond: 2 Souls, Drakengard 3, Metal Gear Rising, and other new games which I still have to buy.
